Third Grade AIM Update
@norton_AIM
Today in AIM....
Today started with a little acting! I had our third graders help me finish filming the UIL commercial that I sent out earlier today. They were fascinated with the drone and were happy to help out. I have included the video below in case you haven't seen it yet!
Electricity!
Once that was done we reviewed what we had previously researched about electricity and used that discussion to narrow down our focus for today. We agreed that in order to become “electricity experts” we needed to figure out how circuits worked and how electricity traveled. After about 30 minutes we came back together to share what we had found. We successfully drew a diagram of the important components of a circuit and decided to put that research to the test by working in partners to build our own electrical circuit. Some were successful and some will try again next week.
Math Wall
During the last 20 minutes of the day I introduced the math wall…. to mixed reviews. It is challenging math, but not impossible math. I revisited our discussions about what happens to our brain when we don’t exercise it and then encouraged/made everyone pick a challenge card. I really want/need for them to welcome challenges and to be OKAY with having to sit and think about it for a while. They started to feel better about it after a new minutes and I told them that their teachers are going to be encouraging them to come and work on it when they find their classwork not challenging. The thought of “extra” AIM was just what they needed to dive in!
