Newsletter Week 1, Term 4

Huirangi Primary School, Monday 17th October 2022

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

It is hard to believe there is only 9 weeks left of school, and 10 weeks until Christmas! Welcome back to you all.

This term is jam packed full of fun! It is a particularly important term for our Year 6 students, who prepare to leave us to continue their learning journeys at intermediate in 2023. Term 4 can be emotionally and socially challenging for our Year 6's, but we are here to support them as best we can, and know that they will leave Huirangi School very well prepared for the future!

Over the break I had contact from two groups of people wanting to come and visit us at Huirangi to hear the back story of the classroom name changes, murals and signage upgrades we have had this year. They are also wanting to have a look at the teaching and learning happening in our kura. This is a real honour, and I feel very proud to showcase Huirangi School to other educational professionals in our province.

Please note the upcoming events and dates that are at the bottom of the newsletter and pop them onto your calendar. These next 9 weeks will certainly zoom by!

This weekend is Labour Weekend, and there is no school on Monday.

Ngā mihi nui,

Natalie Looney

Principal

Keeping Ourselves Safe

As part of the Health Curriculum we are delivering the NZ Police personal safety programme, Keeping Ourselves Safe. This will take place in the first four weeks of Term four.

The aim of the programme is to:

  • teach students a range of safe practices that they can use when interacting with other people, both online and face to face
  • teach students how to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and encourage students who have been or are being abused to seek help
  • prevent abuse by making parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.

If you would like to look at the programme and learn more about what it entails, please click on this link. If you have any further questions, please contact me: principal@huirangi.school.nz

Health and PE Consultation

Every two years we ask for your feedback around the delivery of the Health and PE Curriculum. Your feedback guides our teaching of this area and is truly valued. Thank you to those of you who have already responded. We can't make necessary changes if we don't know what our community members think!

Please click on this link to complete a VERY short survey.

Thanks!

Cluster Cross Country and the Colour Run were great fundraisers for the school!

This term our fundraisers will be:

  • Pets Day

  • Disco and Bought Lunch

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 19th October at 2pm in the staffroom. All welcome.

You are Invited to 'An Evening with Paul Rangiwahia'.

I would like to invite our school adult community to an evening of 'wellbeing chat' with wellbeing advocate, and local artist, Paul Rangiwahia.

While Paul certainly doesn’t claim to have all the answers to great mental health and wellbeing, he outrivals by challenging people to look closely at what they can positively influence within their own lives, all delivered in an engaging, unique and down-to-earth style.
Paul’s kōrero use stories, history, humour, experiences and a good lashing of common sense. He gives pragmatic and simple advice on things like letting go, trusting your intuition and how to create greater self-awareness are communicated with clarity and mana. A natural presence and the ability break down the complexities of modern life and examine the key elements that are able to be influenced have resonated with captivated audiences across New Zealand.

Please come along to this free event. It will be "so worth it".

When: Thursday 10th November, 7pm

Where: Huirangi School

Children arriving late

If your child/ren arrive at school after the 9am bell it is important that they report to the school office before going to class. This is for Health and Safety reasons as we must know who is on site at all times.
