Ben Eielson Jr. Sr. Weekly Update
Nov. 23rd - 27th, 2020
Ben Eielson Families,
This is a short academic week as Thursday and Friday there will be no school for the Thanksgiving Break. This last week on our condensed academic schedule was the mid point of the grading term. JH classes this represented 3rd Quarter Grades and for HS it is the mid point of the '2nd' Semester. We continue this week being fully remote instruction through 30 November, where we have no students coming into the building.
The end of the grading term is December 18th, finals will take place both Thursday the 17th and Friday the 18th of December. Next semester we have a couple new course offerings available, please connect with the counseling office if you are interested in enrolling. Beginning in January, Junior High -Choir; High School- Choir; Careers; Intro to Engineering & Robotics; and students who were not successful when they took English 9 or English 10 will identified to take a new credit recovery English course - "LEVEL UP ENGLISH" - a personalized approach for students who have failed a semester of required English 9 or 10 and need to retake the class for credit.
Nutrition Services provides at no cost meals for enrolled students, which can be picked up curbside M-F from 9am to 1pm. This Wednesday Nutrition Service has prepared a Thanksgiving Meal, see flyer below or if you have questions please contact the school.
This week the University of Alaska is hosting a financial aid presentation twice, the information is posted below.
The Junior High Student Council is hosting a virtual Thanksgiving Party, Wednesday the 25th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
If you have questions please reach out to the office at 372-3110 ext. 0 or ext. 1.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Not sure what the FAFSA is? Here's a quick video that gives a great overview!
The application for seniors graduating in 2020 opens on October 1, 2019.
A 2018 tax return may be used rather than needing to wait until 2019 taxes are done. Ensure you register for your ID # on the website in advance, as it may take a few days for it to be processed.
This important document can be filled out online at https://fafsa.ed.gov/. Not sure why you should fill this out? Here are a few great reasons:
1) This document is one of the criterion for eligibility for the Alaska Performance Scholarship
2) This is the application that will qualify you or your student for State and Federal Funding
3) Many colleges and universities require this be filled out as a part of the application for their privately funded scholarships.
4) The FAFSA is not just for university. This important document can help students receive funding for other post-secondary institutions that receive Title IV funding.
To access the zoom link please see the flyer listed below.
