Book Fair
Just in time for Christmas! The Scholastic Book Fair will be held December 2 – December 8. The fair will be open before and after school as well as by appointment. The book fair will also be open before and after the music program on December 5th.
If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/fowlerunifschdistrict225. Our Online Fair is available from November 21 to December 4. If you order books online, all purchases ship directly to customers (with FREE shipping on book-only orders of $25 or more.)
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits. We look forward to seeing you and your family at our Book Fair! Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Family Dinner Night & STEM Activities
Colt Dizmang and Makenna Smith led their parents on a tour as they would when we have visitors to our school. Saul Bailon-Mendoza served as the translator each night. Jordy Padgett, Matthew Ackerman, and Chase McDowell presented on The Leadership Program. Kasen Faurot, Ximena Bautista, Maddison Durbin, and Makenna Smith presented on The 7 Habits.Natalie Bollinger and Bryce McDowell presented on Project Based Learning. Abby Cunningham presented on STEM Lab. This was great opportunity for students to demonstrate their leadership skills while also teaching their parents about FGS.
The highlight of each night was working together as families to complete the following STEM challenges:
* Design and build a catapult that will launch a Hot Tamale the farthest possible distance.
* Create a 3-Dimensional representation of a Thanksgiving symbol out of paper and adhesives.
* Create a contraption that can remove the snow in the shortest amount of time.
* Create a reindeer antler that can be held above your head and used to pick up a candy cane in a relay race.
* Create the tallest possible free-standing Christmas tree using only pipe cleaners.
* Create a parachute that will consistently deliver the Christmas gift to the center of the target.
Parents were able to experience first-hand how their students learn during STEM Lab. Students spend about 45 minutes, once per week, in the STEM Lab. Students build their problem solving skills by creating solutions to open ended questions. Each student can approach the problem in their own way and all their final products are unique. Students also learn to test and improve their creations. This is exactly what our families experienced together!
Black & Gold Tournament
December 10, 12, and 13, 2019.
No passes will be accepted. Admission will be charged.
Food Science Pizza Day
In preparation for this day, the students completed a course to receive their food handler’s license. This license has already been used by a few students to apply for jobs in the area. The students also created the schedule for the event, applied math skills to calculate the necessary amount of each ingredient, and delegated the work all on their own with Mrs. Flax's support as needed.
The class offers special thanks to the kitchen staff for helping them navigate the school kitchen and use equipment they weren’t comfortable with. The students have a new found respect for the kitchen staff through this real-world experience, and everyone loved the pizza!
