MESSAGE FROM DR. BEARDEN
Hello SHE Families,
We now have 10-days in the books with a lot of successes, a few challenges, and some school routines settled. I hope that your family is settling in and able to count the successes outnumbering the challenges. Remote learning is different and it will take some more time for teachers, staff, students, and parents to practice enough to create comfortable. But we all must do what we have to do to persevere. Students being in any type of learning is valuable and needed.
At last night's Principal Chat, I discussed logistics around Curriculum Night, Phase 1 beginning on Sept. 8th, enrollment, and introduced the Official Summit Hill ES facebook page. I gave a lot of information and the link to all documents is available at the bottom of this feed. Your teachers will also be sharing information with you.
I want to speak specifically to Phase 1 beginning on September 8th. There are a few bullets that I want to make very clear as SHES must follow FCS guidelines in this process:
- Participation in Phase 1 face-to-face sessions is an option for parents of K - 2nd graders. Your teacher will be in touch and you need to communicate which option your family chooses.
- Once your session is assigned by your teacher, this session is firm and will stand for Phase III & IV as well. There are many moving parts which depend on consistency.
- There will be a sanitization process between session 1 & 2 for each group.
- A family can choose to opt in and then opt out during the Phase 1 period and visa versa. Please just communicate with your teacher.
- If you have to miss your session day/time for any reason, there is not a way for teachers to "make up" that day for you. We appreciate your understanding
- Wednesday will not be an option for a session time. The district will not budge on this and we appreciate your understanding.
- 3rd thru 5th grade students are eligible to request a f2f apt with their teacher no more than 1 day per week on M, T, Th, or F.
- There is no bus transportation available for 3rd thru 5th grade students.
- 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade teachers will be able to schedule 30 minute appointments during his or her WIN Time.
- If a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade teacher has more requests for appointments in a week than time to accommodate, students will then be randomly selected and all others will be moved to the next week.
During the 8/27 Principal Chat, I had indicated that I would inquire to see if Wednesday could be used when a school holiday fell on a Monday. When we ask a question, we hope for the answer we want. When we don't get the answer we want, we have to move on. Well, we using Wednesday is not an option due to COVID protocols for cleaning/sanitizing classrooms/buses between groups 1/2 and 3/4. As well, the Meal Stops program is utilizing Wednesdays to distribute meals for families and this would cause an unnecessary conflict for some families. It was not the answer we hoped for but it is the answer for now.
On behalf of teachers and staff, thank you for all of the support and encouragement this week! Please feel free to share the Hilltop Happenings with anyone, who may be interested.
