Wow! Is it really November already? The school year is off to a fantastic start. To say that I am honored to be here in Battle Lake would be an understatement. The community, students, families and faculty have all been welcoming and accepting and have surely made me feel part of this great community and school.
Speaking of great schools, it is with pride that I write today and inform you that Battle Lake School has been named a 2019 Minnesota School of Excellence. We are one of only eight schools in the entire state to receive this award. The Minnesota School of Excellence Award is given to schools whose principal, staff, students, and community -- working as a team -- demonstrate the desire to strengthen education by successfully undertaking the Minnesota School of Excellence program. This school improvement process is recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. It involves a systematic program of self-study, development of a school improvement plan, and implementation of the plan based on demonstrated results.
This recognition continues a long list of awards and recognitions received by the school. The school has twice received recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School and has been recognized many times as a Reward School. We should be proud to have such a strong school system in our community. Great schools don’t happen by chance….it really is a combination of efforts between school staff and the community. I believe very strongly that a great school strengthens a community and a strong community strengthens a school system. We certainly have both here.
I would conclude this piece of writing by stating that our students have been simply awesome. I am impressed by the effort in the classroom, in activities and as audiences. The students represent all of us very well and others recognize that...we have received several positive comments this year regarding our students.
I look forward to continuing the strong tradition of excellence in education and eagerly anticipate the great things that are yet to come this year. As always, my door is open, please feel free to engage me in conversation about the great things happening in our school or things that we can improve on.
Yours in education,
I has been brought to our attention that some students are coming to school extremely early. Here is what it says in our student handbook.
The doors will be open to bus students when the buses arrive. No student is to be in the building before 8:00 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. unless under the supervision of a faculty member.
Thank you for your help and cooperation.
Your help is needed! Students need to come to school prepared to go outside for recess. The wind is a major factor on the playground. Hats, mittens and warm jackets are needed. Boots and snow pants will be needed when we get snow. We go outside for playtime unless it is raining or the wind-chill is below -5º, so please send your children dressed appropriately.

We will be selling class pictures Wednesday and Thursday night at parent teacher conferences. Mrs. Haberman or Mrs. Marso will have them in the door way of the big gym. The cost is $5 for a 5”x7”picture. Checks can be made payable to the
