What's Happening at Whitt!
Once a wolf, always a wolf!
August 6, 2019
A note from Mrs. Teamann
Our teachers came back on Monday and goodness gracious, how very much better this building is with our people in it. They are passionate about your Wolves, they are excited about being back (either on campus or remotely), and plans are underway.
This is all new, for all of us. Instruction won't look like what it looked like in the spring. It will also evolve as we go. What we do on day 1 will hopefully be improved upon and done better by day 2, and each and every day after. Communication is even more important than usual.
These weekly newsletters will be CRAMMED with information, as we attempt to overcommunicate to make sure you feel like you are a part of what is happening, at all times. Whether you are an on-campus learner or a remote learner, you are a Whitt Wolf.
As we begin to move forward, PLEASE feel free to email or call Mrs. Power or me. We will answer any questions you have...and promise to be more accurate than Facebook. :)
Remote learner? This info is for you!
Please note...we will have materials for ALL remote learners! Something for everyone!
Do you need a chromebook for your remote learner? Do you need a hotspot?
You are MORE than welcome to use a chromebook/device that you have at home. Given the number of learners we will now be providing for, we would like to encourage our Wolves to use their own devices as much as possible.
That being said, if you need one, please fill out these forms before you come up during one of the drive-through opportunities above. That will help expedite the process.

Meet the Teacher
On the afternoon of August 10th, our teachers will be calling to let you know that they are your child's teacher.
Meet the Teacher will look a little different this year, but we are just so thankful to be able to offer this opportunity to you! To help minimize traffic, we'll be offering an appointment schedule of "meet the teacher".
1. If your child is learning on campus your teacher will have a virtual sign up available and sent via email on August 10th. You will be able to take a pic with the teacher and see the classroom.
2. If your child is learning remotely, your child's teacher will send out a sign up for a virtual meet the teacher experience.
We have times available on August 11th and 12th to help accommodate as many people as possible, while mitigating large crowds. We will also have our back to school photo opportunities up and available during this time.
Added Campus Safety Protocols, just as an additional fyi, :)
- Hand Sanitizer stations added
- Water fountains are shut off and replaced with water bottle filling stations with appropriate spacing stickers
- Social Distancing Stickers on the ground outside waiting areas such as; restrooms, cafeteria/lunch lines, etc.
- Scanners and barcodes on student identification badges will be used in the cafe and create a contactless checkout for purchases.
- The cafeteria seats will be marked with stickers to indicate where students will sit, skipping seats next to and across from one another to allow for social distancing. Some classes will be eating in the classrooms.
- Recess will happen each day. Classes will be divided amongst the grade levels to avoid large numbers of students as recess.
- Handwashing will occur on a frequent, regular basis by each classroom.
- "Excess" furniture has been removed from classrooms to allow student work areas (desks/tables) to be further spaced out.
- At this time, all adults in the building will be wearing masks.
- All classrooms and learning spaces are equipped with disinfectant spray and paper towels. Student work areas and high touch areas in the classrooms will be cleaned between each class period.
- Transitions between class/pack/lunches are staggered to limit the number of students in the halls at one time.
- Dismissal at the end of the school day will be staggered and students will be released in waves to limit the number of students passing in the hallways at one time.
- We will have a "well" clinic for medication administration, injuries, etc. and a separate "sick" clinic for visits related to illness
- Please talk with your child about wearing their mask for long periods of time at school, if that is your expectation. Our teachers will not be enforcing mask expectations. Have them start practicing now wearing a mask for extended periods of time.
- School doors will open at 7:00 am, classes begin at 7:30 am and students will be dismissed at 2:40 pm. Dropping off and picking up as close to the school hours of operation will limit students congregating before and after school outside of the building.
News from Nurse Kim
- Please bring your student's medication and required paperwork to the clinic at "Meet the Teacher." If you have any questions, feel free to email or call me.
- Starting next week you will need to complete a weekly health screening survey for your student every week. https://forms.wylieisd.net/Forms/HealthScreening
- I am going to serve as your point of contact for COVID-related issues including reporting illnesses and possible exposures. When a student is ill at school, the teacher will notify the nurse for the need for a clinic visit. When a student has potential COVID-symptoms, they will be kept isolated as they wait to be picked up. If your student is experiencing symptoms at home, please include them on the health survey or notify me. I will contact you to work out a return to school activities date.
