3rd & 4th Grade Updates
Summer is Almost Here!
Hard to believe the summer is almost here! We are still finishing up our units in Science and Social Studies and the learning has not stopped. Mrs. Silva and I have just wrapped up our DRA Reading Tests with both grades in both languages. We have a busy end to our school year with our potluck tomorrow, 8th grade graduation mass and graduation on Thursday, and Field day next week!
Ways to Practice Spanish!
Be sure to incorporate Spanish into your summer. Whether it's by traveling, reading, writing, speaking, or listening, in person or online, all students returning to Holy Rosary should be practicing over the summer! If you would like any specific work for your child, please let me know before next Wednesday, June 14.
Some easy ways to practice:
- Go to the library for children's books in Spanish.
- Keep a weekly journal in Spanish.
- Watch movies in Spanish. You can either change the language to Spanish or put on subtitles. Better yet, do both so that the kids are reading and listening to Spanish!
- Get the Duolingo app to practice.
- Download the Epic! reading app with readings in Spanish and English. Only $1 for three months! https://www.getepic.com/summer-of-reading?utm_source=Epic!%20Subscribers&utm_campaign=6156bae5c2-pr_summer_3for1_edu_5_31_17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_7485cf92eb-6156bae5c2-57953661
- Get together with friends from class and speak only Spanish.
- Try http://www.babbel.com
- Go to a restaurant, talk with the staff and order food in Spanish.
- Listen to music in Spanish
- Reading activities (some are strictly readings, some have comprehension questions and answers) http://www.spanish.cl/reading.htm
- Send Sra. Nolting an email or letter in Spanish.
- Make an illustrated dictionary about on a topic of your choice. Have your child choose the words they want to know within a given topics.
- Write and present a short story or play.
If you have any suggestions or things that have worked well in your family, please let me know so I can share with others! More to follow next week.
