Principal's Message
I hope each of you had the opportunity to attend a parent-teacher conference with your child's teacher. Thank you for attending a conference and collaborating with your child's teacher. Many of you walked away with resources and strategies to support your child at home. If you were not able to attend a conference, please be sure to reach out to your child's teacher to schedule one.
On Thursday, October 28, we had our first Family Fun Learning Night: Monster Math Night (see photos below) since March 2019. It was so great to be able to gather safely and have fun. Thank you for coming out to join us. Please save the date for our next Family Fun Learning Night: Polar Express on December 2.
Establish limits on your child's recreational scree time
Screen time usage among children has surged during the pandemic and remote learning. According to data from SuperAwesome, a kids technology company, children ages six to 12 said they spent at least 50% more time in front of screens each day. To set healthy limits on recreation screen time:
- Talk with your child and let your child know that it is time to set limits and that there will be more productive non-screen activities.
- Establish blackout times. Set periods of each day when all screens are off (yours, too!). If your child knows that 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. is "tech free" time, for example, your child will get out of the habit of reaching for a screen device during those hours.
- Power down before bed. Screens and sleep don't mix. In fact, screens make falling asleep harder. So have your child stop using digital devices at least one hour before lights-out. And keep them out of your child's room overnight.
- Leave the phone in your pocket. When you're running errands or sitting in a waiting room, offer your child traditional ways of entertainment (a book, a deck of cards, conversation, etc.). Show your child that the creative brain is the best device one will ever own!.
