Writing an Objective Summary
World History
Here is an activity that could be used with Unit 4: Religions. And here are the M/C Bank questions for Unit 4: Religions. Think about the lessons you incorporate related to religions. Do your lessons enable students to answer these questions?
By the beginning/middle of the first full week of March, everyone should be into Unit 5: Middle Ages.
Civics and Economics
When looking at the executive branch, why not have a former president explain the various roles of the president. Here is an excerpt from Calvin Coolidge's autobiography that looks at the presidency.
American History 1
Why yes, we are revolutionaries! Units 1 and 2 set the foundation for the concept of the "American Dream." In our unpacked standards, there is a definition of the "American Dream". This was discovered after a conversation about various interpretations of the "American Dream". So if you want to know what DPI means when they say the "American Dream" here is what they mean:
“The American Dream” – Students should know that the American Dream is a belief that the United States, through principles established at its founding, offers the opportunity for prosperity and success. It is the aspiration of Americans to move beyond the level of their parents and grandparents, and embraces the principles of as equality, democracy, and material prosperity.
Here are the M/C Bank questions for Unit 2.
American History 2
By the end of the week, we will be ready to jump into the foreign policy developed during the Progressive Era. Yes, we are opening our arms to imperialism. One of the components objective 3.1 is to examine the differing views of American imperialism. This activity requires students to read different points of view regarding imperialism and the Spanish-American War. It is interesting to explore the arguments among the African American community regarding African Americans fighting in the Spanish-American War.
Message from Melissa
We are trudging through this very long quarter. For those of you hoping for a little weather relief, I think your dreams for the rest of the winter have been shattered. Maybe that groundhog was right?
If you have not heard from your Department Chair yet, last week each school was provided with a USB drive with resources on African American History in North Carolina. There are great resources in there for AM1, AM2, and the African American Studies course.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Please let me know if there is anything you need!
