Reflection Corner: Our Advent Journey

On the first Sunday of Advent, we begin a new liturgical year and a new journey with Jesus Christ - being on a journey across the paths of time. But where are we journeying? Is there a common goal? And what is this common goal? Jesus Christ is both our guide and goal of our journey. This journey never ends. Just as in each of our lives, we always need to begin again, to get up again, to rediscover the meaning of our lives.

Let us reflect on how we are going to make our Advent journey more meaningful and worthwhile.

Thanksgiving Mass

Thank you very much to all of you who joined us at our Thanksgiving mass last Wednesday. As always, it was a wonderful celebration. Our fourth graders set the tone by their rendition of It's a Wonderful World. The active participation of the school community made the mass truly special.

Season of Advent Begins

At OLM, it has been our tradition to open the season of Advent by a prayer service followed by the blessing of the advent wreath. Last Monday, Fr. Doming, with the assistance of Sr, Rosabel and our third grade prayer leaders, started our day with prayer and reflection as we begin our advent preparation.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass

Please join us as we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at our school mass at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8th. Please note that this is our only school mass in December. There will be no school mass on December 16th as listed on the calendar given at the beginning of the school year. Hope to see you on Tuesday.

OLM Family Mass

Our monthly OLM Family Mass is at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 6th. Please come and celebrate mass with the OLM families. It always is great to see our families taking part of our parish celebrations. As always, our children will provide inspiring music during the mass. See you then!

It's a Wonder-full Life Coming Up, Very Important Ticket Information

It's almost time for our Christmas Program. The show promises to showcase our talented students as they sing and share an important message to all of us in this season of Advent. Providing the Musical Prelude is our very own school band. It happens at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11th, at the OLM Church.

In our effort to provide all parents / guardians a fair chance at having seats for the performance, we are changing our admission / ticketing procedures this year. Please take note of the following:

All families will be given / assured of two tickets (reserved seats) upon request.

From 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7th till 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9th, parents need to send an email to tickets@olmbulldogs.com , indicating the name of your oldest child enrolled at OLM this year and his / her room number on the subject line. The following is an example:

To: tickets@olmbulldogs.com

Subject: Ayden Vitug, 1B

Please do not write anything in the body of the email.

Requests received before 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7th, or after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 9th, will not be honored.

We only need ONE request email per family. Duplicate requests - more than one request email from a family - will be moved at the end of the request list.

Please note that tickets will be assigned to parents in the order the emails are received.

For those families who may not have email access, the school will open our phone lines for ticket requests from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ONLY on Monday, December 7th. A call made after an email is sent will be considered a DUPLICATE request.

Tickets (which are numbered by pew) will be given to the oldest children before dismissal on Friday, December 11th. If you need to make alternative arrangements for ticket pick-up, please do let the office know no later than 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

On the night of the performance, please make sure that you keep your tickets. Our ushers will be checking to make sure that everyone is seated on the assigned pews.

Please note that EACH FAMILY WILL ONLY GET TWO TICKETS. For those who miss the ticket request window and for other family members wanting to watch the show, whatever extra tickets (we have) will be available at the door starting at 6:00 p.m. on December 11th.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Repost: 60th Anniversary Coffee Table Book

To commemorate the school's 60th anniversary, we are producing a coffee table book, "The Gift of Our Lady of Mercy School." A must-have book for all OLM alumni, students, family, friends, supporters, it hopes to bring all of us down memory lane as each page provides us glimpses of the sixty wonderful years of our school. Special thanks go to the project committee members: Arlene Fife, Jean Anderson, Janti Sommer, and Greg Rougley.

You should receive a letter with an attached solicitation form and letter for your contacts (family and friends) from the office. A soft copy of the documents will be posted on our website and a link will be added to this Parent Bulletin entry shortly. We are requesting that you let people know and get them to contribute to our project. We thank you, advance, for your support.
