Dear Families,

Happy Friday! We have had a very emotional week. On Wednesday, our class had to say goodbye to Miss Stenzel. She was a wonderful addition to our classroom and we will all miss her very much. She loved the basket of gifts that the class presented to her. I am very touched by the generosity of our families. Thank you!

First trimester progress reports are now available to view online at ParentVUE. Please use the following link if you have questions about the descriptors on your child's report.

I can't believe there is just one more week until Winter Break. This year is just flying by! I am looking forward to seeing the students really get into the holiday spirit next week. :) Have a great weekend!

Curriculum News

Language Arts

This week we discussed the term point of view. The students learned how people have different points of views about topics depending on their attitudes, beliefs, and experiences. We then read a book called Voices in the Park which is a story about a day at the park told by four different voices. The students then worked with a partner to dive deeper into the book and answer questions about each character's point of view of his/her day at the park. The students really loved this book! Ask them which character he/she most liked to read about!

We also discussed opinion writing this week. Students learned that an opinion piece needs to include their opinion on a topic and reasons to support their opinion. Students practiced writing an opinion piece by giving reasons why or why not children should be able to throw snowballs during recess at school. Some of them were very convincing!

We started Unit 2 in Math Expressions this week. In this unit, the focus will continue to be on multiplication and division. We will be working with the factors of 6, 7 and 8 as well as multiples of 10. Please encourage your child to use the study sheets that come home to help them reach fluency with finding products of single digit numbers. After Winter Break, I will be posting the daily math homework, along with the answers, on our classroom website. You can access the website by using the following link:

Social Studies

Our trip to City Hall last Friday was amazing! Hopefully your child shared his/her insights with you. I am certain that each student gained a greater understanding of what happens at City Hall. This week we read and discussed chapter 13. In this chapter, we discussed the causes and effects of different environmental problems in our world.
