Principal's Message

Welcome back to school!

I take great pride and joy in welcoming you to the 2021-2022 school year. It is exciting to be part of a community of great students, parents, and teachers at Oak Park Elementary this year!

The staff at Oak Park has high expectations for all of our students. We have even higher expectations of ourselves. This year, the Eagle staff will dedicate our focus on improving learning for all students. We will continue to work diligently through collaboration to discuss teaching strategies to meet the needs of our students. We will improve student learning through improved instruction focusing on aligned curriculum, data collection, intervention which will focus on remediation, acceleration and enrichment. We are committed to finding each student’s skill level and taking them forward in their learning.

Beautification projects continue at Oak Park. The school is almost fully painted. It looks fresh and clean! The floors have been polished and are shining. The outside is the next focus for the Eagles. If your business is interested in donating rubber mulch, please contact Mrs. McDonough. The rubber mulch would be used to line the garden in front of the school to keep dirt from getting on the sidewalks.

Parents and community members are partners in educating Oak Park’s students. We encourage parents and volunteers to get involved by joining our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that will be re-established this school year. If interested, please contact Mrs. Lysette Wittholt at wittholt.lysette@brevardschools.org. In addition, our School Advisory Council (SAC) is looking for new members. If interested in joining our SAC team, please email Mrs. Tonja Mayo at mayo.tonja@brevardschools.org.

Oak Park, like many schools is working hard to combat COVID 19 and the Delta variant. We are sanitizing, washing hands and using hand sanitizer throughout the day. If your child feels ill, please keep at home and test if necessary. There is not a mask mandate at this time, but they are highly recommended. Your support is appreciated.

We are honored to be entrusted with your children this school year. We look forward to S.O.A.R.ing to the Top!

Everybody, every day, whatever it takes!

Seven Step Process

A main focus at Oak Park this year is classroom behavior. We have implemented a seven step process for our teachers to follow before students are removed from the classroom. Please note this process is not followed for severe behaviors such as physical aggression.

1- Redirect student using proximity control, visual cues, non-verbal cues, and/or visual supports.

2- Zones check in, refer to support if needed

3- Calming Corner

4- Reflection Sheet, copy provided to family

5- Buddy room in the same grade level

6- Phone call to family

7- Discipline referral

Keeping our students in class is our goal! Every minute our students spend away from the classroom is lost learning time. Please work with your student's classroom teacher to reinforce acceptable classroom behaviors. Remember, our Eagles S.O.A.R.
