In December, we have been designing digital snowflakes, constructing snowmen with Google Slides, and exploring holiday websites.
Playing Music with Mr. Ryan
Kindergarten will be learning to keep the beat with the triangle, tambourine, and maraca.
The 1st and 2nd graders will continue learning to keep the beat with the triangle, tambourine, and maraca.
The Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders will continue learning how to play the conga drums in the Ghana tradition and play the “Boom Whacker” tubes with a melody.
The 4th & 5th graders will be starting a Recorder Unit in January. They may order their own recorders to play and keep, or they may borrow a recorder that will be kept at school. Please see the information sheet your student brings home. December 9th is the ordering deadline. Please remember ordering is optional. F.Y.I: The school will be ordering “Lyons” recorders from “Musician’s Friend,” costing $4.00 each.
For any music questions, you may email Mr. Ryan at Ryanrj@Mukilteo.wednet.edu.
PE
We just wrapped up our basketball unit in PE for the month of November. The month of December will be full of hockey and winter games! We are excited to teach kiddos how to pass, dribble, and shoot a hockey puck. After establishing the foundational skills the intermediate students will move onto small sided hockey games while primary students continue to focus on refining their hockey skills. During our final week before break we will dive into some winter themed games and station activities that will focus on skills learned so far this year. We cant wait!
Mrs. Corsi and Mrs. Cass
Thank you!
December Library News
Happy December Odyssey Families and best wishes for a snowy & festive month!
Little Library: Our Odyssey FREE Little Library is open. The Little Library serves as a free book exchange for students. Students may donate gently used kids books to the little library to clear their library account, or they can simply give if they have books that are no longer being used at home. Each week students will have opportunities to choose free books from the library too! Free little library drawings will change throughout the year, but they are almost always based on safe, respectful, and responsible. Students get to keep Little Library books!!
Poster Raffle: The Scholastic Book Fair was a success! Thank you to all families who supported our library by shopping the book fair. Scholastic donated a set of decorative posters to our library. These will be raffled off during the week of Dec 5th-9th. Each day, two student names will be pulled. If their library account is clear, they win a free poster! Good luck, Odyssey Orcas!!
December Book Suggestions: Our current seasonal book display features winter books and celebrations. Students can visit the library web page to get more reading suggestions based on monthly celebrations and events.
Free Ice Skating at Pacific Ice in Everett Sponsored by Odyssey PTA
On Thursday, December 15th, Odyssey Elementary students and families are invited to experience ice skating at Pacific Ice. Their grown-ups and siblings (kindergarten and up) are welcome to skate too. There is no cost to skate. Your admission has been paid for by Odyssey Elementary’s PTA.
Pacific Ice is located at the Pacific Rim Plaza (1028 13th St, Everett, WA 98201) at the Port of Everett next to Jetty Bar & Grill and Hotel Indigo. This is an outdoor rink under a heated tent so dress for the weather. Gloves are recommended, especially for new skaters!
The event runs from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with skaters taking turns on the ice due to capacity limitations. There is a 50-skater capacity on the ice. You can arrive any time between 5 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. and may have to wait for your turn on the ice. We expect each skater will have about 30
minutes to skate.
