Week of 10/14/16: Notes

Kindergarten Families,

This week was a great week at school! A huge thank you to the parents and grandparents that joined us at Russell Farms this week. We had a great field trip experience. The pictures in this edition of our newsletter offer a small glimpse of the learning and fun we experienced on our trip. We look forward to more exploration and learning as we dig into finding answers to our questions and wonderings about farms and pumpkins. This week we also worked on the letters N, K as well as the words for, get, am. In math, we worked on numbers 1-20, patterning, and shapes.

So far this year we have taken a close look at the following letters, sounds, sight words and numbers. We will continue to work on these in class. Please consider practicing these with your child at home as well. Some practice options can include: flash cards, print search (look through weekly adds to find letters or sounds), making sets (show or tell your child a number have him/her get a set of objects to match that number, count them together).

Letters/Sounds: S, M, A, T, C, R, I, P, B, F, O, G, H, J, U, L, D, W, E, N, K

Sight Words: a, I, the, is, you, and, we, can, go, my, at, on, see, this, here, look, are, mom, dad, had, big, do, for, get, am

Number Recognition: 1-20

Book It!

For each day that your child reads independently or with a buddy at home they can color a pumpkin on their Book It Calendar. At the end of the month if your child has been reading, please have them turn in their calendar and he/she will earn an award certificate good for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. This is a great opportunity to be rewarded for the reading practice you are already encouraging at home. Happy Reading!
