At Home Testing Before Returning From Winder Break
Students might be exposed to COVID-19 during the break.
Testing at home helps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Union School District is providing optional at-home test kits for all students and staff.
Step 1: Test materials will be sent home
A test kit box will be sent home for each student and staff member
Each box that has 2 iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Tests and instructions
Step 2: Test your student (Optional)
Students who do NOT have any COVID-19 symptoms and have NOT had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19 are recommended to test two times:
Test #1: Three (3) days before returning to school
Test #2: The day before returning to school
Watch the video on how to test: How to do an iHealth Rapid Test
If you DO have any COVID-19 symptoms and/or you have HAD had a known exposure to someone with COVID-19, please STAY HOME and call your school for next steps before you return.
Step 3: Understand your test results
If the test is negative:
If your student feels well and has no COVID-19 symptoms, return to school!
If your student has symptoms or has been in contact with someone with COVID-19, please call the school before they return EVEN IF THE TEST IS NEGATIVE. More testing might be needed
If the test is positive: Stay home from school and contact your doctor and your school right away. You will need to get a PCR test from your health care provider to verify the home test. Isolate for 10 days.
If the test results are not clear: Contact the school for next steps, to find the next in-school testing date, or find a local testing site to retest. Dartmouth Middle School and Union Middle School both have community pods for your testing conveniences. See www.unionsd.org for testing pod times. Make sure you have a photo of your test.
Note:
While this is an optional testing program, we are encouraging all families to support us in keeping our schools safe after the holidays. Test results are not required to return to school from Winter Break.
This gesture of goodwill from Union School District to our families is another step in keeping our entire community safe at school.

USD Open Enrollment: 22/23 School Year
Intra-District Transfers
The Union School District Board of Trustees endorses a neighborhood school concept. The Board, however, recognizes that parents may wish to choose a school of attendance other than the assigned school. Therefore, the Board of Trustees believes that parental choice among the district’s public schools should be included as an integral feature of a well-rounded educational environment.
Home school attendance areas are established to optimize the use of existing facilities and to avoid crowded conditions. However, requests for Intra-District Transfers may be made for reasons of personal preference based on the needs of the family or child.
If you are interested in having your child attend a school within Union School District but outside of your home attendance area, you must complete an Intra-District Transfer Request Form found under the Family section of the USD website. Intradistrict Transfer Applications are open for submission on January 14, 2022. Please complete the online form by 4:30 p.m. on March 1, 2022. Intra-District Transfers will only be honored if space is available at the receiving school. Requests received after that time and date will be placed on a waiting list status. If there are more requests than openings at any particular school, a lottery selection process, as required by the Education Code, will take place.
Any approved intra-district transfer will be reviewed yearly to determine continued placement based on academic progress, behavior, attendance, and finally space at the site. Once an intra-district transfer is approved, you do not have to re-apply, and the transfer is in effect through 5th grade for elementary schools and 8th grade for middle schools, unless otherwise noted on the transfer. Union School District BP 5116.1
Inter-District Transfers
If you live outside of Union School District and are currently on an Inter-District Transfer to Union School District, our District Policy does not require you to reapply for the 2022-23 school year, however, your home district Policy may be different, so please check with your home district.
Based on our District Policy and the Inter-District Contract, your child’s academic progress, behavior and attendance will be reviewed. If all are acceptable you will be welcome to remain in the District as long as space is available. Space determinations are often not certain, however, until late in August and possibly as late as October 1.
If you are by choice returning to your home school, please let your site know as soon as possible. If any of the criteria above is not met, we will let you know in writing so that you can enroll your child in his/her home school. Union School District BP 5117
The TUPE-Tobacco Use and Prevention Team at the Santa Clara County Office of Education is focused on what parents need to know about vaping nicotine and cannabis products. This presentation will provide you with ways to help educate yourself and your child on the harmful effects of vaping nicotine and cannabis products. Please join us for an hour long presentation on January 11th from 6:00-7:00 pm. Register in advance for this meeting:
