Dr. Lancaster Speaking at PTO General Meeting 9 am October 19

Do you live here? Do you pay taxes? Do you like coffee and/or donuts? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’re invited to our General PTO Meeting! Mark your calendars for October 19th at 9:00am (come when you’re able) to learn more about the Bond and Tax Ratification Elections. Our own Dr. Lancaster, Superintendent of LTISD will be presenting. If you’ve never heard him speak, please make a point to come (Dr. Lancaster can even make tax talk humorous).

Dr. Lancaster will be answering questions too! As always, we welcome small children, we love our future Tigers! We’ll be raffling off WCH Spirit Wear. Invite your friends and neighbors, even if they don’t have children in school (bring a photo ID to check into the office). See you on the 19th!

Avoid waiting in line for your security badge. RSVP here.

Early Voting

In a unanimous vote June 20, the Lake Travis school board approved an order calling a $253 million bond election for November 7, 2017.

Last month, a citizens’ advisory committee presented its proposal to the board, calling for district-wide capital improvements to accommodate the district’s continued increase in student enrollment. According to demographer Population and Survey Analysts (PASA), student enrollment at Lake Travis ISD has increased by approximately 76% since 2007. Considering a moderate growth rate scenario, projections indicate a continued increase of more than 60% during the next 10 years, resulting in a district-wide enrollment of nearly 16,000 students.

The major components of the district’s 2017 bond program include the following:

  • Middle School #3
  • Elementary School #7
  • Upgrades, renovations, and repairs to existing facilities
  • School buses, including installation of seat belts
  • Technology
  • Land for future facilities and utilities

For more information on the upcoming 2017 Bond Election and TRE Overview, please click here for additional information.

Early Voting will be available here at WCHE on October 23rd from 7 am- 6 pm. PTO and I will host our first Principal Coffee of the school year that morning in the Library from 7:30-8:30 am. We welcome all parents and community members to this event. I will be available to answer questions, address concerns, and celebrate WCHE's success!

Additional voting locations are available on the district website: Early Polling Locations

Destination ImagiNation Info & Permission Slips Due 10/13

It’s that time of year again, and Destination ImagiNation is looking for responsible kids with creative minds, great problem solving skills, and great team working abilities! Destination ImagiNation is a community-based, school-friendly program that builds participants’ creativity, problem solving, and teamwork in enjoyable and meaningful ways. It is a wonderful program that allows teams of five to seven children to work together on long-term challenges and participate (K-2nd) or compete (3rd-5th) against other schools in the Austin and surrounding area.

Participating in Destination ImagiNation involves a long term commitment and team responsibilities that lead through to the final competition in early March 2018. Becoming a team player involves meeting at least once a week after school for a few hours, purchasing a minimal amount of supplies, and lots of dedication and teamwork.

Each team will also need a coach to help organize and supervise the team from now until the competition. We cannot do this without committed parents willing to coach! If you are interested in allowing your child to participate in Destination ImagiNation and would like more information on the program, please visit the website for a more detailed explanation.

If your child chooses to participate this year, fill out the form found in last week's Tuesday Folder and return it to Ms. Macintyre at WCHE by October 13. Your completed form may also be dropped off in the Front Office or given to your child's classroom teacher.

Help Wanted....

We plan to add an outdoor study area for our students and are seeking bids from landscape contractors. For those interested in submitting bids/resumes, please contact vp@wchpto.org.

LTISD to Offer Flu Shots for all WCH Students October 25

The LTISD is partnering with Healthy Schools, E3 Alliance, and Schoolhouse Pediatrics to make flu shots available to West Cypress Hills Elementary School students on October 25 from 8 am to 11:30 am.

Parent letters and consent forms went home in Tuesday Folders. In order for your child(ren) to have the flu vaccination on October 25, a signed consent form must be returned to the classroom teacher by Friday, October 20. Please contact Nurse Hensel with any questions.

Volunteers are needed to help with this project either by escorting students to and from the nurse or by distracting students while they receive their flu shots. Volunteers willing to help administer a dose of love should sign up here. Many thanks for your help!

The WCHE Clinic Needs Athletic Shorts/Pants/T-shirts

If you have athletic t-shirts, shorts and/or pants that your children have outgrown, we'd love to have them in the Nurse's Clinic. All sizes are needed and much appreciated.

When To Keep Your Child Home From School

Please keep your child(ren) home from school if any of these factors exist:

  • Temperature above 100 degrees F
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Eye redness and/or drainage
  • Undiagnosed rash anywhere on the body
  • Severe sore throat or headache
  • Persistent untreated cough
  • Head lice that has not been treated

It is important to remember that schools are required to exclude students with certain illnesses from school for periods of time as identified in state rules. For example, if your child has a fever over 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. In addition, students with vomiting or diarrheal illnesses must stay home until they no longer are vomiting or have diarrhea (without the use of medications) for at least 24 hours.

Students with bacterial pink-eye must be treated with antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school. Consult with your physician for information about how long to keep students home from school for other illnesses.

If your child is diagnosed with a communicable illness such as flu, strep throat, pink-eye, chicken pox, staph/MRSA infection, any reportable illness, or any vaccine-preventable illness, please let your school nurse know.
