Principal's Message
As you already know, we had a lockout on March 1st in the afternoon. Law enforcement asked us to do a lockout due to police activity downtown Hillsboro. Our students and staff responded promptly and doors were locked to keep everyone safe. We wanted to make sure families know that you will not be able to pick up a student during a lockout. Lockout means that there may be a dangerous situation outside the school so please avoid standing and waiting outside the school during a lockout. Please refer to the safety directions below for additional information.
Also, our students and teachers have already been working on a writing project for our Multicultural Event that will take place on Tuesday, May 23rd. You should have already received information about the questions students are writing about with the theme "Me, My Family, and My Culture." Please reach out to your classroom teachers if you have any questions or need additional information.
With appreciation,
Carmen Brodniak
Message from Dean of Students
For March, we will be focused on the Social Emotional Competency of Self Management which is the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.. Our character trait will be Growth Mindset and staff will be on the look out for Student of the Month nominees that consistently demonstrate Growth Mindset here at school.
We now have almost 200 students who worked extremely hard to earn 50 Paws-itives and completed an application to become a Lynx Leader. We would love to add more students to the team - students can talk to classroom teachers if they would like to become a Lynx Leader at our school.
Attendance Reminder:
Our collaboration with families is key for the success of students. We wanted to send a reminder of the importance of consistent attendance for students. We want all students regularly attending and accessing their grade-level learning!
Thank you to all families for your support and encouragement from home, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all!
With appreciation,
Haley Steinbach

Math Updates- Megan
Inspired by Sesame Street's "One of these things is not like the others" Christopher Danielson wrote the book Which One Doesn't Belong? Fourth graders in dual language have been engaging with these thought-provoking puzzles as student work to find a reason why EACH one does not belong. The focus is on the math practice of justifying and communicating their reasoning with others. There are no wrong answers because there are many different, correct ways of choosing which one doesn't belong! The students in Mrs. Hodgson’s 4th grade class even created their own WODB puzzles to share. It’s your turn to give it a try, can you find which one doesn’t belong? Why?
In my opinion, ___ does not belong because________.
