TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
DECA NATIONALS
From April 26th-April 29th, 20,000 DECA members from 6 countries across the globe met in Anaheim, CA to test their skills in marketing and participate in leadership development. Every competitive event was full; 180-200 teams/individuals in each event category.
Of those 20,000 students in attendance, 400 were from the state of Arizona, and 15 of those 400 earned the right to get on stage; 2 of those 15 were from Chandler High School. Congratulations to Riley Whitt and Kameron Dawson for earning Top 10 out of 200 on their 100 question comprehensive exam. Competition was tough and these two individuals studied hard to earn this honor.
Also, congratulations to Alexis Marchand for earning 12 hours of leadership development in the Elevate leadership training program.
IB BANQUET
CHS celebrated the 2017 IB Diploma Candidates, Career Program Candidates, and IB Course Candidates during last week’s International Baccalaureate Booster Banquet. 133 seniors are involved in CHS’s IB Program. Guest speaker Mike Sissel spoke to the IB seniors about Youth Leadership and Emotional Intelligence. Thanks to the IB Booster Club and Mrs. Anne Bender for organizing such a terrific event.
AZCENTRAL.COM SPORTS AWARDS
Arizona’s top student-athletes and coaches were recognized at the azcentral.com Sports Awards at ASU Gammage in Tempe on Sunday night. T.J. Green was named Big Schools Football Athlete of the Year. Additionally, Coach Erik Richardson was named Girls Track and Field Coach of the Year, and Coach Bobby Robson was named Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year. Congratulations, Wolves!
WRESTLER EARNS HARDWARE
Congratulations to Chris Kelly for his great showing at Western Regionals. Chris earned 4th in Greco, 2nd in Folkstyle, and 1st in Freestyle.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL PLAYER SELECTED FOR NATIONAL TRAINING TEAM
Jonny Bowles, CHS Junior, has been selected as a member of the USA Volleyball Youth National Training Team. Twenty-four players born in 1999/2000 are invited to the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY for a “second tryout.” From there, 12 players will be chosen to travel to Bahrain to represent the USA in the World Championship tournament. It is the highest honor a player of his age group can receive. Congrats and good luck, Jonny!

CTE BOAT RACES
Last Friday, CHS hosted the 1st Annual CUSD Inter-High School Cardboard Boat Races at our pool. Thanks to the CTE Engineering students across CUSD for organizing and participating in this fun and educational event!
BEGINNING DANCE CONCERT THIS WEEK
“RUNNING OF THE WOLVES” OBSTACLE COURSE
Student Council is excited to announce the first ever “Running of the Wolves” obstacle course on Saturday, May 13th. The course will take runners on a tour of the CHS campus. Stations include: running, strength, endurance and physical obstacles. Registration is online at: www.raceroster.com. Check out the Student Council page for more information.
EXPLORING EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Join Brown, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell and Rice for an information session for prospective students and their families on Thursday, May 18th at 7:00pm at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Scottsdale Resort. Sessions include a brief overview of each institution, info on admissions and financial aid, and a chance to speak informally with admissions representatives. You must register for the event at the link below.
Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University, and the University of Chicago will be hosting a joint information session in your area.
Students and their families will learn more about the selective admissions process, scholarships and financial aid, academic programs, and campus life. An admissions officer from each school will be available to answer university-specific questions.

OPERATION ROCK STAR
Rock n Roll High School is proud to announce they are partnering with the Arizona National Guard and the USO to produce Operation: Rock Star! on May 6th in downtown Tempe.
Operation: Rock Star! is a Battle of the Bands competition for High School and College bands and soloists that has cash prizes of $500, $300 and $100 for the top bands and $100 for the top soloist. Judges will be music industry professionals and celebrities. View the Operation Rock Star 2017 flyer for an application.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR GRADUATING SENIORS
- Starting May 1st, if you would like to invite parents, grandparents and great grandparents who have graduated from Chandler High School to the 2017 graduation ceremony, we have arranged for special seating on the grass on Austin Field for multi-generational families. To have your request approved, please pick up a form from Mrs. Claudio in the admin office, have it completed and returned by May 15th.
- Also starting on May 1st, for those of you who will have family members or friends attending the graduation who require handicapped seating, we will start taking names and assign seating on May 1st. Please see Mrs. Baum in the admin office for further details and to make the arrangements.
