Room 204 Monthly Newsletter

August 2016

Hello, Room 204 Families!

We are officially done with the first week of third grade! It was a fabulous week full of procedures and learning. I have called or tried to call at least one family member per student. If I didn't get to talk with you and you have something you want to discuss, please call me or let me know a good time I can call you!

The rest of August will fly by before we know it. Let's take this time to get to know each other, build a strong classroom community, and settle into our new routines. Thank you so much for all the classroom supplies that you sent! We should be set for the year! It's going to be a fantastic year!

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will see you soon!

-Mrs. Haley

Math: We are working on our mindset about Math--focusing on the fact that we can ALL learn math if we want to.

Writing: We will be introducing the constructed response model called RACE (Restate, Answer, Cite evidence, Explain). We will practice using the book "The Recess Queen".

Reading: We will add our 2nd Daily 5 this week--Work on Writing! We will also read some really good books called "The Boy Who Loved Words" and "Richard Wright and the Library Card".

Social Studies: We will talk about our hopes and dreams for 3rd grade, create class rules and norms, and read the book "My Librarian is a Camel".

Computer Information

I'm sure you have heard that we received computers on Friday! :) Students will learn our procedures for computers here at school this week. They should be able to begin taking them home next week. Unless I hear from you, I am going to assume your student can bring their computer home. Let me know if you have any questions!

Math Week 1 - Data Collection

We collected data from various questions (favorite sport, how do you feel about 3rd grade, favorite specials class, etc.). Then students made visual representations using math manipulatives! It was fun and students were very focused! You can find the data hanging on the wall outside of our classroom. Check out the pictures below of your students working hard.
