It is that time of the year for our four-year graduation planning meeting. Your student created a plan with their 8th grade counselor last year. We want to revisit that plan with you and your student to make sure everything is still okay. Please give your student’s house office a call to schedule a meeting with the counselor. The meeting should take about 30 minutes. We have a variety of times available. Call soon to schedule yours. Meetings began Wednesday, February 1st.

Optimist Club of Fort Worth Essay
It’s Groundhog Day, and the wave of essay contest submissions has begun. There is still time for your students to submitt essays prior to the entry deadline, 5 p.m.Feburary 10, 2017. If you choose to submit your entries by email, please use this email address:
essaycontest@optimistclubfortworth.org
The following guidelines will help our essay judges:
1. Examine each application to make sure the application is complete, including the student’s email contact information, DOB, and handwritten signature of a parent. The sponsoring club number is 38170.
2. If possible, scan the application and the essay as a single PDF document. Please convert work done in Microsoft Word or other word processing software to PDF format. The completed application is the first page of your scan. The title page of the student’s work is page 2, and the content of the essay follows.
3. What to do with the application? Not everybody has access to a good scanner. If that’s your predicament, it is acceptable to use your smartphone to capture a legible PDF image of the application. Save your original, because Optimist International may require it if you qualify for entry at the district level.
4. If the application must be submitted as a separate attachment to your email, please name the scan with the student’s name. For example, if the student is John Doe, we suggest you name the PDF scan as Doe_John.pdf. If the application must be submitted as a separate email attachment, make sure it is named with the student’s name also, e.g., Doe_John_app.pdf.
5. Address email entries to essaycontest@optimistclubfortworth.org.
The definitive rules which control the validity of submissions are those of Optimist International, which you will find on your application form at http://www.optimist.org/Forms/Essay_RULES_PAD-E_16-17.pdf.
The Board of Directors of Optimist Club of Fort Worth has noted the good response from Fort Worth area schools this year, and has determined that scholarship awards for essay winners at our local club level will be made for winning entries in the amounts of $1000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. The first place winner at the local level will be eligible for district competition, where a solo additional first place scholarship award shall be conferred by Optimist International, in the amount of $2500.
You may also submit by regular mail to Optimist Club of Fort Worth, Essay Contest, P.O. Box 101163, Fort Worth, TX 76185.
