What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading: We are still practicing context clues! Antonym definitions are grabbing us and shaking our brains!! We'll also take the time to study media literacy in more depth. That means we'll look at how colors, sounds, words, and pictures influence us while we are reading about certain items. (Use to your advantage the next time a child wants an item because of the flashy commercial!!) Adding to all of the above is a repeat of sequencing stories. This skill is tricky because students want to add far more information than is needed.
Writing: You should begin to see writing prompt feedback come home this week. While we keep working on specific skills, we'll turn our attention to writing fiction stories next.
Grammar/Spelling/Handwriting: This week there is NO spelling work . We've just finished working on prefix and dictionary skills and will fit in the handwriting from last week. *We're working on the letter v and on connecting letters that have unusual starts or end connections (cursive k, r, and i are great examples).
Math: We are moving into working with larger numbers up to one million. We'll write numbers, expand numbers, spell out the written form of numbers and use our knowledge to decide if numbers are < or > other numbers. We'll also begin adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers.
Social Studies/Science: We're still studying the inherited, behavioral and learned traits of animals this week. We'll learn that some things are inherited while others are learned or connected to certain behaviors. Super interesting stuff!
