Special EDition Monthly Newsletter
News from Special Services March 2021
Greetings!
I am pleased to bring to you our monthly newsletter from the Special Services Department. The goal and focus of this newsletter will be to inform families of news and information from the Special Education programs and Special Services happenings each month!
One item of note is the interest survey in the formation of our Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG). The initial meeting will be on Monday, April 19th. We will discuss the goals and vision of the group at that meeting. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
As we move further into March, we are approaching a busy time for the department. Annual review meetings are being scheduled and our office will be in contact with you regarding meeting dates and times, if they haven't been already. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
I am excited to move into this position as Director of Special Services, getting to meet new families, and strengthen relationships with the families have have come to know over the years!
All the best,
Christopher Butler
Happy National Social Worker's Month
Invitation to join the Florence Township Special Education Parent Advisory Group
We invite you to join the Florence Township Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG). SEPAG provides parents with the opportunity to give input and advice to the school district regarding matters pertaining to students with disabilities. Ideally, we are looking for participants to consist of parents of students with an IEP (one from each school) and a parent of a student served in an out-of-district school. Special Education staff will also be included. The newly formed SEPAG will be focused conversations and collaboration.
The main aims of the SEPAG are:
❖ To provide input on polices, programs and practices that impact services and supports for students with disabilities
❖ To give input that will improve positive outcomes for students with special needs
❖ To provide feedback on key issues that are specific to the special education department
What we would like from you as a member of the SEPAG:
❖ A willingness to collaborate with school administrators
❖ A willingness to attend four SEPAG meetings during the school year
❖ A desire to continue to improve special education services in a positive forum
❖ The ability to focus on “big picture” (systemic) issues
If you would like to be considered as a participant on the Special Education Parent Advisory Group, please complete the below survey. This survey will close on March 31, 2021. Our first meeting will be on Monday, April 19th, 2021 from 6pm - 7pm. As always, thank you for your support.
Thank you
