Thank You to the Foundation for Boyertown Education
At the end of each school year, Mrs. Mento sends a library survey to students to find out what they want in the library. The last two years, students expressed that they wanted comfortable seating. Mrs. Mento wrote a grant to the Foundation for Boyertown Education in May for five tablet arm chairs, a lamp, a coffee table, and two end tables with charging stations in them. Unfortunately, the prices of the chairs increased and three of the chairs had to be changed from tablet arm chairs to reading chairs, but they were still able to create a relaxing area for students and purchased four magnetic chess kits.
Thanks to the Foundation for Boyertown Education, the students now have a comfortable area in the library to work and read.

Say hi to our new staff members 🎉
Mrs. Slater/ 7th & 8th Grade Math Teacher
Mrs. Slater has taught math in the Boyertown School District for the past couple of years, moving around each year between the high school and middle school. Boyertown is where Mrs. Slater graduated, before going to Millersville University to earn her degree. During her time at Boyertown, Mrs. Slater was a participant of the orchestra and the tennis team. She even attended middle school, or then junior high, right here at East!
Over the last 5 years, Mrs. Slater got married to her husband Tom, bought a house, and got a dog named Barry. In her spare time, Mrs. Slater loves to bake, go to local events, and spend time with her family and friends. She also loves to travel and has a long bucket list of places to visit!

Other reminders
Chromebook Reminders
Students who forget to bring their Chromebooks to school have to do work on one of three desktops in the library. We do not have loaner laptops. It is important that your student bring the school-issued Chromebook every day.
Charge Cord Reminders
Many students have left their chargers in classrooms. If there is a name on the charger, it easy for the teacher to return it to the students. Please put your student’s name on the charger. This help prevent your student from losing the charger. The library does have a few chargers that students can check out for the day if they don’t bring their charger to school.
Student council
Student council is planning both virtual and in person activities and events this year. See the information below to join your grade-level Google classrooms.
After School Homework Help (ASHH)
After School Homework Help (ASHH) is back beginning Tuesday September 21st and Thursday September 23rd and then every Tuesday and Thursday following! For those not familiar with the program, ASHH is a time when students may work on schoolwork from 2:45 to 4:00 PM every Tuesday and Thursday under the supervision of East teachers Mrs. Melchiorre, Mrs. Lutz, and Mr. Howard. Students must have transportation home at 4:00 PM and will be dismissed to the front loop entrance area. Students do not need to sign up ahead of time, however they MUST make sure they have a ride home at 4PM prompt. Students staying for ASHH report directly to room 314 when second run buses dismiss at the 2:40 pm.
Sorry no snacks but students may bring a drink.
NEW ASHH OPTION: We realize not all students can get a ride home from school that would like academic help. Therefore, we are offering a virtual ASHH option for all students. There will be an open ASHH Google Meet from 4:30pm to 5:45pm on Thursdays ONLY. Google Classroom Code: zikg65b
Please Note: This virtual option may be expanded or reduced once we determine the number of students utilizing the sessions.
If you have a question about ASHH please email Mr. Howard jhoward@boyertownasd.org

The Library is Busy!
Mrs. Mento has been going to classrooms to do library orientation and set kids up with their MackinVIA eBook and audiobook accounts. She should be finished by the middle of September. Students have checked out 2,500 books this year!
What’s in the Library?
There are 25,000 items in the East Library including almost 7,000 fiction books, 569 graphic novels, and 13 chess sets. We have 29 craft kits (knitting, crocheting, hat looms, and scarf looms). The kids can keep the yarn they use. The library also takes yarn donations!

The library offers Scholastic Book Club flyers by the chess sets. Many English teachers do book clubs. If your student’s ELA teacher does book clubs, please order through him/her. If your student’s English teacher DOES NOT do book order, you can order through the library.
You can choose to have your books shipped to your home or delivered to the library with this order.
