Husky Happenings
October 2019
Notes from the President
2019-20 PTSA Board
President Kelly Vincent
Vice-President Amy Spurling
Treasurer Agatha Allen
Secretary Rachel Cartwright
Thank you to everyone who supported the Mum sales! We sold 614 mums this year for a profit of $2100.
The Plain Vanilla Fundraiser has raised $3600 since the beginning of the school year. Donations for this fundraiser can be sent to school or to the office throughout the school year. The funds allow us to support the many programs we sponsor for the students and staff at North. The forms for submission can be downloaded from the PTSA tab on the North HS website. We will sponsor a homeroom competition this fall for students to donate to the fundraiser and the winning homeroom will celebrate with an ice cream sundae party. Donations already collected will be included for each homeroom.
Apple Days in early October was a huge success and enjoyed by staff and students. Parents sold apples during first period on 2 consecutive days. The students enjoyed being allowed to eat in class without getting in trouble!
Hangers continues to serve many students in the EVSC community and is always in need of volunteers to help sort clothing and donations to keep the shelves and racks full. Hangers is located at the AIS Diamond Campus (entrance off Wedeking Avenue). Their hours are Mon-Thurs 8am-12noon with a work night the first Tues of each month from 4-7pm (a pizza dinner is provided). Feel free to drop by with donations, to volunteer or get a tour of this amazing facility. The PTSA will hold it’s annual clothing and deodorant drive in the spring. Donations of gently used NHS Spirit wear and uniforms can be sent to the Nurse’s office. Contact Kristina Stasi (Kristinastasi06@gmail.com) for more information.
PTSA Memberships ($8 per person) continue to be collected in the main office. You may join the PTSA at any time during the school year. We currently have 240 members including staff, students, parents, etc.
PAYDay (Parents Appreciate Youth Day) will be held Thursday, April 23rd during lunches. Students receive 3 raffle tickets to take a chance at winning an item. We strive to have as many prizes as possible so that as many of our 1600+ students have a chance at winning something. Prizes can be anything from a $5 gift card to a pingpong table. Donations are accepted from individuals as well as businesses. –- Please contact Carla Jackson if you’d like to volunteer, make a donation or know of a business for us to contact (Jacksonfamof6@gmail.com).
Citizenship and Reflections Programs are still in need of chairs this year. Citizenship is our local Area Council of PTA’s essay contest with this year’s theme: “If you can dream it, you can do it”. The Reflections Program (entries include dance, film, photography, music, art and literature) is a local, state and national PTA contest. This year’s theme is “Look Within.” Please contact Kelly (mktcm@aol.com) with questions and to volunteer.

PSAT Test, which is the pretest for the SAT, will be given at North on Wednesday, October 24th to all Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors. The cost is FREE! This test will run from 7:30am-11am
PSAT 8/9 (given to Freshmen) – provides baseline for freshmen for high school classes and college readiness.
PSAT for 10th graders – provides practice for the PSAT their Junior year and the scores can be used to qualify for dual credit classes and AP Potential.
PSAT for 11th graders - This test is extremely important to College-bound Juniors because the Junior year test scores are the ONLY scores considered for National Merit Status and related scholarships.
Seniors/PSAT – Since seniors do not take the PSAT, permission forms were sent home 10/11 for seniors to attend a college visit, job shadow, do community service or come to school for study hall to catch up on work. Seniors who do not have a permission form on file and do not come to school for the study hall will be marked truant.
Enrollment for next year will begin in November. More information to follow at a later date.
SAT will be offered to all juniors 4/9/2019 during the school day. More information to come closer to time.
