PTA BOOSTERTHON COMING SOON!
Parents and families get ready!
This year’s main fundraiser is the John B. Dey Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday, 3/5. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday, 3/14 during the school day, so everyone gets to participate!!!
With our ambitious goal of raising $25,000 for Cafeteria Technology Enhancements & Beautification (think Cafeteria Mural and brightened New Wing) as well as PTA Events, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB! Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world during their PE classes.
Funds raised will go toward Beautification (we plan to secure Onietonie who's artwork is around Virginia Beach, see examples of his work below!) & Technology Enhancements for the New Wing, PTA Events, and to the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors.
Be on the lookout for more information to be in your child's backpack very soon!
Thank you for your support! We know the kids are going to love this event!
MUSIC NEWS
HERE COMES THE BUS
Here Comes The Bus®
Know when your bus is approaching your stop – before and after school – with Here Comes The Bus®. Parents can receive notifications – on one or multiple devices – letting them know when their bus is close to the stop.
This Here Comes The Bus® app is now live and can be downloaded for free via the App Store or Google Play.
Instructions for establishing a Here Comes The Bus® account
- Enter Virginia Beach City Public Schools' code 76036 and click "Next" followed by "Confirm."
- Complete the "User Profile" box.
- Under "My Students," click "Add." Enter your child's last name and student ID number. Make sure you spell your child's last name exactly as it appears on your child's report card or bus stop information. If there is a hyphen in the name, make sure you include it. If you need your student's identification number, you must contact the school. Due to privacy reasons, Transportation staff will not be able to provide this number to callers.
- Once you confirm your information, you are ready to begin using the app.
Questions?
Should you have any questions, please provide the following information to the Transportation Office via email at HCTB@vbschools.com or by phone at 757.263.1545:
- Your name
- Email address used for Here Comes the Bus account
- Your child's first and last names along with student ID
- Your child's bus number
- Question or description of issue
Things to know
You can choose to receive email or push notifications, or both. You can also select types of notifications such as bus substitutions, stop radius entry and stop radius exit.
Bus route/stop information is based on the student's residential address only and is currently available for regular education and academy AM/PM routes. The app does not track transportation for special education, Technical and Career Education Center, Advanced Technology Center, Achievable Dream Academy at Seatack Elementary School, afterschool activities, athletics, daycare, mid-day kindergarten, one-day pull out programs or other alternate bus stop locations.
Students are expected to be at their bus stop at their designated time. On occasion, a different driver and bus may be sent to cover a route. Parents may not receive notifications when this happens.
The app tracks the bus route, not the student.
The default notification radius is 1 mile. It is recommended users change this to a smaller radius. To change it, go to "notification" and "edit notification radius." The app will notify you whenever your bus enters the radius distance you select. You will need to edit this for both the AM and PM stops.
Please note that no bus tracking services is 100 percent accurate.
Depending on your cell provider and coverage strength, notifications may be delayed due to bad cell phone reception.
GIFTED CORNER
March 1, 4:00 PM. First grade gifted applications* due.
April 2 (Tues) gifted testing for 1st graders who turned in an application. Results will be e-mailed to you by the middle of May.
*applications: The application is on line, found at: https://giftedapplication.vbcps.com/
You may only submit it once a year so select all appropriate areas before submitting.
The user ID is your child’s permanent number (also used for Lunch and book check out. Your child should know this number by heart. Your child has this same number through 12th grade)
The password is your child’ school computer password. This will change every 60 days. Please ask your child for this password first, and if that is unsuccessful, follow through with the classroom teacher.
+ Parent Portal is a place to review your child’s permanent records through 12th grade. It requires a two-step process to access so establish your account well before you need it. Go to VBSchools.com and click Parent Portal under the PARENTS drop down.
