PRAYER
Mary, our Mother.
I want to be what you want me to be, and do just what you want me to do.
I am not afraid because you are always with me. Help me to love your Son Jesus, with all my heart and above all things.
Take my hand in yours so I can always be with you.
Amen
Dear Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers in the OLC Community,
Important Dates
Interschool Cross Country
Today our magnificent cross country athletes competed in the SWAPSA interschool cross country event in Bunbury. All represented OLC wonderfully and with great attitude and effort. Thanks to Mrs Sinclair for preparing and motivating the students. So many of our students achieved top 10 places. Amazing! All our students demonstrated guts and determination.
P and F wish list
We have been so lucky at OLC to have an incredible P&F that work and think tirelessly to fundraise and "friend-raise" from our school. Led by Leah Pearson, the P&F have enabled the school to purchase some important and enriching resources that are now all in use and all proving to be amazing contributions to OLC. These include:
- 3D printers for Year 6s.
- Art around the school including cultural totems for each class.
- Science Room resources for our new science specialist area.
- Vegetable Garden for our Garden Gurus.
- New projector in the hall.
Thank you OLC P&F, we are so lucky to have you!
The Year 6 students were challenged with participating in a Minecraft Challenge last term during technology lessons. They had to create a sustainable Minecraft Community that showcased the key messages of Ledauto Si. This project required the Year 6 students to work as a team, to plan and design their world, create a PowerPoint which showed the key elements of their world and present their finished project to the class.
Congratulations to James, Max, and Zeph on their impressive submission in the CNA Minecraft Challenge! They were judged as the best submission for Year 6 overall.
In recognition of their achievement, CEWA were thrilled to present Our Lady of the Cape Primary School with a $300 gift card to spend on Technology items for the school.
The winning certificate is a testament to their exceptional skills and abilities showcased throughout the competition.
Congratulations to Mrs Hurst on coordinating and inspiring this project.
Wellbeing Survey Results
Each year OLC participates in a Wellbeing survey through our partnership with Sports Challenge Australia. This survey involves Year 2 to 6. This year we are once again really pleased in the continual gains and student progress that the school is making in the Wellbeing space. We are also really pleased with our data that shows the continued progress of our students needing supporting in different areas of wellbeing.
This data clearly indicates the amazing dedication and commitment from our teachers and support staff that is having a huge impact on student wellbeing at OLC.
Canteen
A reminder the canteen is only open at recess and lunch on Mondays each week. Online ordering is still available. Volunteers still greatly appreciated.
Great thanks to Pippa Walsh for taking on the canteen.
Whole school special order days are in the pipeline for later in the term.
Did you know?
- Mr Rob and Mrs Sweeny have appeared and were interviewed as guest stars on OLC News this term in the Talking Heads segment. Be sure to ask Mrs Sweeny about her chicken joke!!
- Alexis Giglia has made the 2023 WA Gymnastics Country Team and will travel to Adelaide to compete.
- Something or someone created havoc in the Year 1 wet area last week. Ashes and footprints were found. I wonder if this would be a good opportunity for some creative procedure report writing!!!!
- Max, Zeph and James had lunch with Mr T to celebrate their Minecraft Challenge win and discuss how we can spend the $300 prize money on technology in the school.
- OLC News, hosted by the Year 6 Communicator Crew, is on the road this term, broadcasting each Monday from a different class room each week.
- Isla McLaren had footy training last night in the pouring rain and freezing wind while her dad and sister poppy watched on from the warmth of their car.
- Mrs Penny King thought it was Wednesday, all day, on Tuesday.
- Harry McClenaughan has been mentoring and teaching some Year 2 boys how to do some cool art on Friday afternoons.

RE News
OLC Feast Day and Mission Markets.
Next Friday the 4th August we are celebrating our school Feast Day for the Assumption of Mary. This is a day for appreciating and understanding Mary as our Patroness, understanding, and celebrating the Feast of the Assumption, growing awareness of those less fortunate in the world, and demonstrating our capacity to “give” as an antidote to need. Last year we raised over $2000 for Catholic Mission Australia’s support for the Ukraine. This year funds raised will go to Catholic Mission Australia for various countries in need.
Students are asked to wear their sports uniforms for the day.
Classes will participate in a whole school liturgy at 10.00am. From midday until 1.00pm, we hold our fundraising market stalls and outdoor activities, with the help of the Year 6 students. Parents are also welcome to attend this with their child/ren if they would like to come along.
Our stalls are focussed on the fun that comes from participation, rather than the acquisition of “things” to take home. This comes from a sustainability perspective and a desire to minimise packaging and collection of items that essentially end up as landfill in the long run.
Activities on the day include the following:
To assist, we are asking that children bring money that they have earned from doing jobs around the house so that they can understand the value of the money they are donating. We ask that the children bring no more than $20.00 maximum (in coins please) for the day. It helps to have coins contained in a clearly labelled snap lock bag with your child's name and class in case it gets dropped on the tour around the school. Classroom teachers will be explaining how we make Jesus Real by helping those less fortunate and in need by raising money. We look forward to a fun filled day celebrating our wonderful school.
Bishop Gerard Resigns
After 22 years as the longest serving Diocesan Bishop in Australia as the Bishop of the Bunbury diocese, Pope Francis has officially accepted the resignation of Bishop Gerard Holohan. Archbishop Timothy Costelloe has been appointed as Apostolic Administrator of the Bunbury Diocese until such time as the Pope appoints a successor to Bishop Gerard. This is likely to take some time, and there may be some implications for the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Year 6 students’ next term. I will clarify this as more information comes to light. We ask that you pray for the appointment of a suitable candidate for our new Bishop who can continue to lead us in our faith, in the years to come.
P&F News
A warm welcome back to Term 3 from the P&F Committee. We hope you were lucky enough to find some sun over the holiday break, enjoyed time with family and managed to stay well.
Extending a big thankyou to everyone involved in helping send Mr Lee off in style. The P&F committee and class reps were integral in coordinating the event, but it would not have been possible without the support of parents helping provide a beautiful morning tea. Eugene was overwhelmed by his send off, so thank you.
Our number 1 maintenance man, Rob, has laid the new family bricks at the entry to the school. Thanks Rob. Thank you also to families for supporting this P&F initiative and adding your mark to the OLC walk of fame.
And finally, mark your calendars as the quiz night is back and this time it's an all Aussie shindig.
Grab your mates and try your luck at the big prize. The night will be choc a block full of Aussie themed questions, fair dinkum fun, raffles and entertainment.
Rustle up the crew and grab a table of 10 or buy a single ticket for one of our open tables. Max 10 crew per table.
Come dressed in your best Aussie clobber and be ready to be entertained by quiz master extraordinaire Travis Fassom and our very own Mr Danaher.
