Daylight Savings!
As we move past Halloween and toward the holiday season, it seems that mother nature is ready to transition to Winter as well. Please make sure that your student comes to school each day with a jacket to keep them warm during recess. At Monday night's Board of Education meeting, Highland will be conducting the Flag Salute including leading the Pledge of Allegiance, sharing what we have been working on this year, and having our Student Council officers share all of the great work they are doing. We hope you tune-in! Don't forget to turn your clocks back on Sunday as Daylight Savings Time ends. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or feedback. Take care and have a great weekend.

Asphalt Construction November 17th-18th
It has been great to see all of our Huskies playing on our new playground and improved blacktop space. In order to ensure the longevity of the project, additional drainage improvements will be made to our back blacktop. These improvements will help further improve water drainage and prevent large pools of standing water on the East end of the blacktop. These improvements will require the removal and replacement of a portion of the asphalt behind Highland. Weather permitting, a District 58 contractor will be on-site on Wednesday November 17th and Thursday November 18th in order to complete this work. We anticipate students remaining inside for recess on these two days as the project is completed. Please feel free to reach out to the Highland main office if you have any questions about this upcoming project.

Optional Student COVID-19 Testing
Voluntary COVID Testing Program Signup
District 58 encourages families to consider signing up for free PCR COVID-19 testing for District 58 students. Registration for this optional testing program is open and our program is actively underway.
Families can select from any or all of three types of testing services including:
Weekly screening testing (routine testing)
Symptomatic testing (testing when a student or staff member develops symptoms at school)
Test-to-Stay (testing for situations in which a student has been identified as a close contact)
Test-to-Stay, an IDPH-endorsed process that allows a close contact to remain in school with regular antigen testing, will begin next week. Please see the district communication regarding the IDPH's guidance regarding when Test-to-Stay can be implemented in schools.
The student sign up for our school can be found below.

Save the Date: Holiday Shop on 12/4
Our Holiday Shop will be on December 4th from 9-1. Students will be able to shop for presents for their family members in the gym, or shop online that week. More information coming soon, along with opportunities to volunteer and help with this event.
Holiday Helpers
It's time for us to come together as a community again to provide for a few of our fellow Highland families. With your donations, we hope to provide a full holiday meal to several families, with extra food to hopefully last throughout the rest of winter break. In addition, we will be gathering donations to fill their list of necessities. During this holiday season, some of our families need winter coats, socks, pajamas and household essentials. Please look for sign ups and more information coming soon. If you'd like to help organize all of the donations, or have any questions or concerns, please contact Fanny Vlahos at fkvlahos@gmail.com.
