What is the Golden Age of Greece?

The golden age is a time of happiness,great peace and prosperity. It was also when Greece was at the height of prestige,wealth and military power. It occurred around

480-430 BC and it left an huge impression all over the world.

The areas where Athens excelled in were...............

1. Art
The reason art was one of the things Greece excelled in is because they excelled in sculpture and other works of art. Their works are impressive for their handling of human anatomy, and details like hair and clothing.

The reason architecture was one of the things Greece excelled in is because they excelled in the way they built things like Athenian Acropolis. They figured out things like making a column bulge in just the right way so that it that it would appear more symmetrical.

3.Sports (Olympic games)
The Greeks also are important for the contribution to sports. We compete in "gymnasiums" and "stadiums" today--names that both come from Greek.Some of our track and field events (ex) the javelin and the discus come out of Greek tradition.

Philosophy : Thestudy of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life, etc.

1. Pythagoras
He was a very famous philosopher who created the Pythagorean theorem which made figuring out the hypotenuse of a right triangle a lot easier.

2. Thales
He was the fist philosopher in the Greek tradition and he held that the first principle is water.He was also the first to define general principles and set forth hypotheses, and as a result has been dubbed the "Father of Science". Also, Thales was the first person known to have studied electricity.

3. Plato
He was a philosopher in classic Greece. He was mathematician, he was also an student of Socrates and he was the founder of Academy in Athens which is the the first institution of higher learning in the western world.
