CES Partner Post
Sunday, September 20, 2020
This week seemed to pass by rather quickly. I had the opportunity to spend extended time in several classrooms and WebEx sessions this week, and I've enjoyed watching the learning that is happening. Your students are doing a wonderful job with all the new safety procedures and protocols. I'm starting to learn student names and it warms my heart to be able to call them by name and have them greet me by name as well.
Our learning commons is almost ready for your students to visit - and it is absolutely beautiful. We were able to live stream the KCES Morning Show from the brand new green room this week. I could tell the students were excited to be back in production and at the news desk.
As a reminder, Monday, September 21, is a staff development day and student holiday for much of GCISD. On that day, there will be no class for in-person and remote learners at all campuses, except for Collegiate Academy and iUniversity Prep.
The complete 2020-2021 Student Instructional Calendar can be found online.
I hope you are able to enjoy an extra day of sunshine, beautiful weather, and family time.
All my best,
Mrs. La Fara
changing instructional model
Families have chosen in-person or remote learning for the 2020-2021 school year, and they do have the option to change their student's instructional model.
Switching from In-Person to Remote Learning
Families are able to switch from in-person to remote learning at any point during the school year. In order to make this change, please contact the campus counselor.
Switching from Remote to In-Person Learning
Families that are wishing to change from remote to in-person learning may only do so at the end of a grading period. For families that wish to change at the end of the current grading period, beginning on September 20 you may log in to Skyward Family Access and complete the changing instructional models form. The campus must receive the completed form before the end of day on October 2.
Only complete form in Skyward if you are switching your instructional model. If you are already in-person and wish to remain in-person, you do not need to complete anything in Skyward at this time.
If you have any questions regarding the timing of when parents may change the instructional model selected or the associated process, please contact Katie Segreti, campus counselor.
Information from Nurse Martha
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work to keep all of our students safe and healthy in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can be assured that our GCISD nurses are working closely with the Tarrant County Public Health Department to monitor the COVID-19 cases in our community and minimize exposures within the district. We request your help in these efforts by asking that you inform your campus nurse anytime someone in your household is having symptoms of illness that are not normal for them. Your campus nurse can share recommendations about COVID-19 testing and safety practices to prevent the spread of illness. And she will work with you on making a plan for students to return to campus after illness.
COVID-19 causes symptoms that are similar to many common illnesses, and people are infectious before they even have symptoms. So, in the case that someone in your household is displaying symptoms of illness, we ask that all of your children, as potential Close Contacts, stay home until a diagnosis is confirmed. Remember, a Close Contact is a person who is within six feet of you for 15 minutes or more, as would be common within your home. If someone in your house is ill, then everyone has likely been exposed to the virus. Again, your campus nurse is ready to discuss with you about the specifics of your family situation and make the proper recommendations.
Arrival & Dismissal
The construction storage has been removed from our car pick up lanes. Please make two lanes when entering the driveway off of Pleasant Run for both arrival and dismissal.
PLEASE NOTE: You will be directed into ONE lane when turning right towards the back of the school (along the CMS fence) and will remain in ONE lane for all of the drop-off procedure. However, during dismissal, you are permitted to move back into TWO lanes once you have turned left into the pick-up driveway that circles into the back area of the school.
A few reminders:
1. The back doors will close & lock at 7:40 am. Late students need to enter through the front door.
2. If you are driving your vehicle to campus, please do not park and walk your children to the school or walk up to get your child(ren) after school. This actually slows down the car rider line. We ask that you stay in your vehicle and go through the car line.
3. During PICK-UP: Please remember to pull forward to the first spot if your child has not yet been loaded.
4. Please remove your sign from your front window when your child has been loaded. This helps the staff know who they are still looking for.
Any students not picked up in the car line by 3:10 pm will be taken to the front office.
Pre-K parents, beginning Tuesday, September 22nd your child will enter the school through the back doors with the rest of the students. Many of our youngest Cowboys were very successful in the morning and afternoon car line; however, if you wish to pick your child up in person, you may still do so from the cafeteria doors.
Attendance in Skyward
Please be aware that as we move through this unique school year with in-person and remote learners, the way in which our teachers take attendance in Skyward has become much more complex. Therefore, to make better use of instructional time, teachers now have the flexibility to formally enter attendance into Skyward up to a full day after the attendance period.
With that said, it is important for parents to know that if you access Skyward to view your student’s attendance, it is possible the system may show them as being absent for the current day, even if they were present in class or online. Additionally, it is possible that remote learning students may still display as absent up until the following day.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

USDA has issued a nationwide waiver, allowing Grapevine-Colleyville ISD to offer meals FREE at no charge through December 2020 at all elementary and middle school campuses and meal bundles at curbside locations.
Beginning on September 22, 2020 Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will begin providing free meals to students as part of the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) program. Sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), this program will allow any student in elementary or middle school to receive a free breakfast and lunch meal in the school cafeteria, with the option to purchase a-la-carte items. Additionally, the District will offer meal bundles at no cost available for curbside pick-up that will contain meals for the entire week, including the weekend.
Curbside meals may be picked up on Wednesdays at Grapevine Elementary, Cross Timbers Middle or Grapevine Middle from 4-6 p.m. The meal bundles will include seven breakfast, seven lunches and a choice of chocolate or white ½ pint milk (14 milks will be provided). Heating instructions will be included so that families can prepare the meals at their convenience.
GCISD’s high schools do not participate in the federally funded program and therefore meals will be charged as normal in those cafeterias; however, high school students are able to pick up a meal bundle from one of the curbside locations.
Parents are encouraged to continue filling out the free and reduced application online at www.schoollunchapp.com. The benefits from being approved for free or reduced-price meals, may include discounts for transportation, standardized tests, college application fees and technology fees to name a few. If you have any questions, please email email@example.com or call 817-251-5617.
