I enjoyed listening to the conversations that followed Monday morning's presentation on Index 4 and higher order thinking. I was especially impressed with how our grade level teams discussed the implications of the STAAR Performance Level Descriptors on their work as they design daily activities for their students. We have only one week's worth of teaching and reteaching before we break for the Thanksgiving holiday. Make the most of it! I appreciate all of your hard work this past week!
Here are a couple of reminders for next week:
Next week is "Take the Lead, Be a Hero! Week" where we empower and educate our students about how they can stop bullying. You may wear jeans from Wednesday through Friday so long as you participate in the daily themes!
- Monday, November 16 is “Niceness is Priceless” Day – teachers will reward acts of kindness and friendship with Cowboy Cash!
- Tuesday, November 17 is “Take a Stand, Lend a Hand” Day – Bring canned food to donate to the North Dallas Shared Ministries pantry.
- Wednesday, November 18 is “Twinkie Day!” – Dress identical to your friend or twin! Students may wear jeans so long as they are dressed identically with their “twin” or friend!
- Thursday, November 19 is “Color Me Bully-Free Day!” – Wear crazy colors and mix-matched clothing!
- Friday, November 20 is “Wear Blue Day!” – Wear Blue to show peace, solidarity, and support of bully-free schools.
This Friday, November 20th, we will also celebrate our annual Staff Thanksgiving during our lunch periods from 10:30-1:05! Our Sunshine Committee Chair, Liz Cardenas, will have a signup sheet ready at this Tuesday's staff professional development. Sunshine Committee will provide the meat -- everyone else provides the fixins'!
Liz Cardenas wants your suggestions for music for our 2015 Cigarroa Staff Holiday Party on Friday, December 11th! Please suggest music for the party by selecting the button below. Look out for a flyer with all of the details very soon!
2nd six weeks report cards go home this week. I advise you to write in or highlight a space for parents to sign the report cards and send them back to you. Make a copy of all report cards with the parent signature on file so that you have this as a reference that they are aware of their student's progress. Send the signed original version back home to them after you copy it.
We are sponsoring a canned food drive for the North Dallas Shared Ministries organization, which also provides ESL classes to our parents. The class with the most canned goods wins a pizza party! The drive ends Friday, November 20th. The pizza party for the winning class is scheduled for Tuesday, November 24th!
School is open this Saturday, November 21st from 9:00-Noon for Parish Episcopal Saturday School. If you'd like to tutor your students, please verify your list with me before next Friday, November 13. If you would like to assist with supervising the Parish tutors, please let me know as well. If you would just like to work in the building, you are welcome to come during these hours, but please understand the building will close and the I will set the alarm by 12:30 PM prompt :)
Have a great last full week before Thanksgiving Break!
