What's Happening in Math Right Now?

We wrapped up Unit 9 this week. Unit 9 focused on the concept that a fraction can be written as both a decimal and a percent. Ask you child to name the decimal equivalent of:

1/2, 1/4, 3/4, and 1/5. Next time you need to figure out a tip for someone, ask your child for some help.

During small group math we have been practicing strategies and skills that will be on the MCA. There is a site on our class website that will let you see these skills. It is under Math = MCA III

What to practice on-line

IXL.com is always the answer to this question. There is an additional site that will be valuable as we continue our focus on the upcoming MCA tests. Under math in our website is a link called MCA III. This gives sample problems. You will be able to see what kind of problems your child will be asked to solve. Even though we will work on this site together, there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing it several times. That way the strategy is internalized.

OUR TRAVELING CAMERAS

As you may remember, our class won six cameras in a Hickory Tech contest. I re-sent the link to our video just in case you haven't seen it. Our cameras went traveling during spring break. Several students went to different states and our cameras went with them. They intentionally took pictures of the different landforms and features of the places they visited. One student stayed right here and took pictures of the Maud Hart Lovelace home. Thanks photographers!
