WELCOME TO ARLETA'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER!
We’re so glad to have you as part of our school community!
This is a weekly newsletter sent in partnership between school administration and the PTA with information about events, school news and updates. Please scroll down for the latest.
PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Dear Families;
I hope you all have remained safe through the fires in Oregon. The clearing of the air has been a big relief for all of us but clearer air does not relieve the trauma so many families have experienced in our larger community. Please let us know if you are in need of support due to the fires and we will do our best to connect you to resources that can help. Calling the school number, (503) 916-6330, would be the best way to reach us at this point.
I have several topics to touch on today.
Latinx Heritage Month
September 15-October 15 is Latinx Heritage month. We will be sharing activities, books and other resources with you between now and October 15 to help you celebrate Latinx people and culture during this month. We encourage you to join us in extending this appreciation and celebration throughout the year.
Back to School Night
Our virtual Back to School Night will be Thursday, October 1, beginning at 6:00pm. We’re finalizing plans this week and will share them with you by Friday. This event will be all online. We want to address outstanding questions you still have about Distance Learning, or any topic, so you will be given the opportunity to submit questions by Google Form starting Friday. We will make sure these questions are addressed during the Back to School Night presentations.
Chromebooks and Hot Spots
We have distributed more than 160 Chromebooks since August and a number of Hot Spots to help with internet connections. We know there are still families waiting for Hot Spots and are hopeful that more will arrive today. We will get them out to you as soon as they arrive. If you still need a Chromebook for your child or need help connecting to the internet, please email Nicole Francois at nfrancois@pps.net or call the school at (503) 916-6330 and we will add you to our list.
School Supplies
It appears that the earlier promise of a district link to a vendor able to provide school supplies specific to individual grade levels will not happen. We are working as a school to provide lists and supplies in the absence of that assistance. You will have the information by the end of this week. We apologize for the delay.
Have a great week and expect another Dolphin Digest this Friday.

JOIN THE PTA TODAY!
The Arleta PTA membership drive is underway! Memberships for the 2020-2021 school year are $10. Join today: http://www.arletapta.org/ways-to-help---join.html
Why should I join the Arleta PTA?
PTA membership and dues support our school community by funding educational needs, advocating on behalf of students and educators at the local, state, and national levels, and building an inclusive school community for all families. With the support of Arleta PTA members, we have provided grants to allow teachers to choose classroom tools that benefit the needs of their students, hosted parent/family social and educational events, celebrated middle school honor roll students, and last spring made a donation to our partner organization, Urban Gleaners, to support food insecure families during the pandemic.
There are lots of reasons to join the PTA! Everyone is welcome - parents, caregivers, grandparents, teachers/staff, community members. Join today for just $10 by clicking the button below. There are lots of scholarships available too! On the fence about joining?...just request a scholarship to try it out for a year - email ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com to sign up with a scholarship.
