OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL T4: W9
TE KURA O TO MATOU WAHINE O RUATA
HELLO, KIA ORA, KIA ORĀNA, MĀLŌ E LELEI, TALOFA, NAMASTE, KUMUSTA...
Advent Blessings to you all - it is hard to believe this is nearly the last newsletter for 2022. We will put out a brief notice sharing news from our Graduation Mass and Prize giving tomorrow.
We have had a wonderful 2022 - our children have been happy, being examples of our Mercy values, and working hard in all areas of school life.
To our Year 6 Graduates, children and families who are leaving - thank you for all your contributions to the school. We are looking forward to celebrating the Graduation Mass and Final Assembly with you. Please see more information below...
*Tuesday - December 13: The Year 6 Graduation mass will be held at 6pm in the church - everyone welcome. Due to covid and health and safety precautions rather than bringing a plate this year we will have an ice block and small bag of chippies to celebrate.
We ask that your Year 6 child arrives, in tidy full school uniform, at the church foyer from 5.30pm onwards so we can fit their Graduation gowns.
The mass begins at 6pm followed by the Year 6 prize giving. This will include saying farewell to some families, our Year 6 children receiving their blessed kete bags, candles, and awarding some children with the major senior awards ie: Catherine McAuley Award, Sport, Academic, Cultural awards. We will also be recognising our senior Whanau leaders at this time.
As Covid is beginning to unsettle the school once again we recommend the use of face masks.
We will also be live streaming the event on Our Lady of Lourdes School Facebook page for those who are unable to be present.
*Wednesday - December 14 will will hold our final assembly from 11.30-12.30pm. This will be held in the church and everyone welcome.
This will be an opportunity for us to thank our Road Patrollers, and Librarians. We will also be announcing our new Whanau Leaders for 2023, as well as announcing the winning Whanau house for 2022.
Every teacher has selected two children for an end of year Mercy award, followed by our final farewell to our Year 6 Graduates. This is a lovely last event for the year. School is closed at the conclusion of this mass @ 12.30pm. There will no staff on site from 1pm.As you are aware our talented Mrs O'Callaghan will begin her maternity leave at the end of January. We have been truly blessed to have Mrs O'Callaghan share her many gifts and talents with us all and especially her Technology and Place Based learning skills with us all. We wish Mrs O'Callaghan, her husband Michael and baby to be all the very best for their exciting days ahead.
I would also like to take this time to thank all our staff for their flexibility, integrity and hard work this year - we had all hoped that 2022 would see a more settled year however as we are coming to learn a little bit of flexibility, resiliency and a great big smile is what was needed.
We are truly, truly blessed to have this staff and this amazing board supporting us.
We also give thanks to Mrs O'Connor who has been one of our Deputy Principals for many loyal years. We are so grateful that she is not leaving us just yet - just decreasing her work days to two or three next year. She will still be leading and teaching in our junior classrooms, supporting Miss Smith as she begins her career in teaching.
We also have the privilege of teaching your children in our school - our school would be one of the kindest, hard working and fun schools I know!!! And you the parents and our wider parish family who support us with all that we do. We are all truly blessed.
We give thanks to our incredible Year 6 Graduates who are moving onto their new journey. They have contributed so very much to our school and we are so much richer for having them be part of Our Lady of Lourdes. We will send out a brief newsletter on Wednesday afternoon to share with you all some of the highlights. Don't forget to keep an eye on our school Facebook page as well.
HERO REPORTING/ END OF YEAR REPORTS
We hope this new system worked well for you - we are still ironing out a few wee things however we see huge potential for us and you to track your child's progress. We are already working on ways to further develop this next year.
Looking ahead to 2023
By now you would know where your child is being placed for next year. This is always quite a process and we endeavour to get things as 'right' as we can for all of our children - this takes many meetings, conversations and adaptions.
We are in the final stages of securing additional teachers for next year - with Room 6 looking to be a job shared position with Mrs Davis/Mrs Gilligan working on Monday and Friday and Mrs Clarke teaching during the week. All of our children know these teachers very well. This class will work closely with Room 8 and Mr Anderson.
STATIONERY LISTS
These were sent out yesterday as an attachment using the emails we have connected to HERO - please select your child's classroom and you will see it there, alternatively you can go to the OfficeMax My School website and look under Our Lady of Lourdes School. We will also post these on the office door if that is easier.
