The Bledsoe Beat
Growing students socially, emotionally, and academically.
Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!
It here officially here! We are thrilled to continue our tradition of excellence as we begin our 2017-2018 school year. Just a reminder that we have Meet the Teacher tonight for 1st - 5th grade students from 5:30- 6:30.
As we transition from summer to school we are asking that there are no visitors for lunch for the first two weeks of school and for the first Good Morning Bledsoe. We want students to have time to get to know their classmates and learn routines and procedures. Although it is such a treat to eat with parents, it can be difficult for our younger students to see their parents. In addition, the first Good Morning Bledsoe is always a little overwhelming for our Kinder students. We appreciate your understanding!
Our Bledsoe Staff is ready to begin, and we all look forward to renewing friendships and meeting new friends as we return for another great school year.
Solar Eclipse - updated
On the first day of school, Monday, August 21st, a solar eclipse will take place. The event will begin around 11:40 a.m., reach its maximum at 1:09 p.m., and conclude around 2:39 p.m. We are excited that such a memorable learning opportunity is happening on the first day of school. The only safe way to look directly at the partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or hand-held solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit thousands of times too much sunlight. Yesterday we purchased eclipse glasses from an authorized dealer verified to be compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard. Students will have the opportunity to take turns to view the solar eclipse. I was not able to bulk order enough glasses for all students. Therefore, we will take turns using the glasses to safely view the eclipse. Teachers will send a Google Form to ask for your permission to view the eclipse. In addition, students will watch the live feed that is being provided by NASA.

First Day of School - Monday, August 21st
Morning Arrival
All morning car drop-offs will be in the back driveway next to the playground. Please allow enough time for morning traffic (especially here at the beginning and on rainy days) in order to have your child dropped off by 7:35 am. This allows them time to walk to their classes with the rest of the students without feeling rushed.Walkers from Phillips Creek may cross at the steps on the east side of the school (a staff person will be on duty at 7:20 a.m. to assist them) and then may either go to the cafeteria or to their class depending on their arrival time.
The front driveway of the school is reserved for daycare vans and families with an HOV tag. HOV tags are available for families carrying 3 or more Bledsoe students in their car. This is a great incentive for carpooling with neighbors!! Tags may be obtained in the front office at Meet the Teacher.
Dismissal
Please complete the dismissal form by the first day of school. This is the SAME form that our teachers have sent to you. We are sending it again in case you need it. However, it only needs to be completed once. We appreciate you filling out the form by Monday, August 21st.

Students will be dismissed from school at 2:55 pm. We will continue to use the multi-lane pick-up system that we used last year. (Please see the traffic map below.)
Daycare vans will be in the front of the building. Students that are traveling to daycare will be dismissed from the cafeteria. Students may not be picked up by cars in the front of the building.
Walkers will be divided into two groups - Walkers and Phillips Creek Walkers.
Phillips Creek Walkers - students will be taken to the gym where they may meet siblings, and then school staff will escort them to the crosswalk located on the east side of the school where they will be able to walk to their homes. Parents may meet those walkers at the top of the steps by the field.
For car riders only: Younger siblings will be taken to the location of their older sibling to be dismissed at the end of the day. (EX: 1st grade brother will be taken to meet 4th grade sister, and the two of them will be picked up in the 4th/5th grade car rider dismissal area. All other students (K-5) will be dismissed from their assigned areas. There are three lanes of traffic that will begin as you enter the school driveway on the west side of the school. The two lanes closest to the building are for student pickup only. Parents are not to park in these lanes and get out of their cars. The far left lane will be for moving traffic only. This lane must remember to SLOW DOWN and watch for students and teachers!! Please do not park in the third lane as this will block all thru traffic. There are designated pick-up areas indicated by signs as to where each grade level car riders will be picked up by parents. Please note: 4th/5th graders are first on the west side of the school, 2nd/3rd graders are located in the back, and Kinder/1st grade are by the playground.

Arrival and Dismissal Safety Tips!
- Walkers - Plan ahead the location you will pick up your child.
- There are two differents ways students leave the building to walk home. Know and tell your child which walker group they should be in.
- Walker - students walk out the front and meet parents in the front of the school.
- Phillips Creek Walker - Students will exit the gym doors and staff will walk them across the crosswalk to the Phillips Creek Ranch.
- Although the first day is special, consider letting them go home the way they normally would the other days. Consistency helps us with our procedures and routines.
- Arrival and Dismissal Car - please be patient with us! Drive slowly and know we are going to go slow to make sure we take care of your precious children!
