The Wellwood Globe
Wellwood International June 2020
From the Principal's Desk
Greeting Wellwood Families,
How can it be summer already? It’s hard to believe this is the final newsletter of the school year!
As you make plans for your summer, please include the reading program from the Baltimore County Public Library. Students need to keep reading all summer to maintain reading skills. Additionally, consider having your child write in a journal. This is a great way to record thoughts and ideas to remember a special day or event, or each day during a quiet moment in the heat of the summer.
It is with great joy mixed with sadness that I tell you of Mr. McNelis' retirement. He has been a member of the Wellwood International community for many years and our school will not be the same without him. We send him best wishes for a relaxing, fulfilling retirement. We also wish Mrs. Devereaux good luck in her new BCPS school. In addition, Mrs. Jacobs will be taking two years off as she enjoys her new baby. We also wish Ms. Venezio, Mr. Goldstein, and Ms. Staten well as they leave Wellwood for new adventures and experiences.
Stay well and have a great summer!
Mrs. O’Neill
Principal

Please contact Mrs. Sonuga (ksonuga@bcps.org) if you have any additional questions regarding registration for Wellwood.
Summer Hike
BCPS is proud to offer students access to Summer Learning Hike – an optional summer learning opportunity.
The early childhood resources, Reading Eggs, focuses solely on reading. All K-11 digital resources, Exact Path for Grades K-5 and Tutorials for Grades 6-11, offer students access to personalized instruction in English/Language Arts and mathematics. The personalized instruction identifies and addresses learning gaps that typically occur in the summer and works to ensure students are ready for grade-level instruction in the upcoming school year. The purpose of the Summer Learning Hike is to offer students the opportunity to review reading and math content from the current school year.
All Summer Learning Hike resources will be accessed through BCPSOne. A learning tile will be in place so that students and families can easily access the digital resources. Students will only see Summer Learning Hike resources that are aligned to the English/Language Arts classes in which the student was enrolled in SY 19-20.
Thank You to Our Volunteers!
Thank you to all of our volunteers who supported our students, staff, and Wellwood families this school year. From those that chaperoned field trips, to supporting our teachers in the classroom, helping with our Wildcat Store, or reading to our students.... we truly appreciate all your time and dedication! We are sad we can’t honor you with our yearly brunch celebration, but please know that your services did not go unnoticed!
Thank you for making a difference in our students lives!
