Abrams Parent News
February 5, 2021
Hello Abrams Families!
Included in this newsletter are the links for parent/teacher conferences, which will be held the week of February 15th. As a reminder, there is no school that week for students. All conferences will be held via zoom. Please sign up for a conference time with your child's teacher. During this time, teachers will review your child's progress, and if your child has a READ plan or other plan, your child's teacher will go through that with you as well. It is our expectation that all parents meet with teachers, so please sign up for a time that is convenient for you. One advantage of meeting via zoom is that parents who are away at training or deployed have the opportunity to meet with teachers.
Also, we need your help! We have noticed the increased speed of traffic at morning drop-off of students and are seeing students who are crossing busy streets that are not managed by a crossing guard. Please take the time to read through the arrival and dismissal procedures below. The biggest point is that if you are dropping your students off from your car, you must come through the lane at the front of the school. Your alternative option is to park in the lot behind the school and walk your child to the crosswalk that is manned by a crossing guard before and after the school day.
Finally, we hope that you will join us next week for our first Parent University session, focused on Adult Mental Health and available resources. This is a zoom meeting, the link is listed below.
We are excited to be partnering with our parents and are thrilled that we continue to be ableto be in school with our students. We offer our continued appreciation for your keeping our students safe.
Sincerely,
Lois Skaggs, Principal
Student Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
We ask that all parents on school grounds wear face coverings that cover both their nose and mouth at all times.
Arrival:
We are asking that if at all possible, families consider accessing Abrams from the back of the school, either using O’Connell from the south side of Abrams or Hare Ave from the north side of Abrams.
When coming through the carpool line, please do NOT drop students off in front of the kindergarten playground. Please pull all the way forward and drop students off in front of the school. This helps us to keep the carpool line moving and get cars off of the surrounding streets.
If you need to get out of the car to assist your child, please park in the lot behind the school off of Wetzel Avenue and walk with your child to their building access door. Please do not get out of your vehicle in front of the school as it holds up the line.
Please do not allow students to exit your vehicle at the bus loading zones at the rear of the school. All students being dropped off by car must be dropped off at the front of the school for safety.
Dismissal:
Parents picking up students at dismissal time should park in the lot at the rear of the school and proceed to either the kindergarten blacktop (Kindergarten students only) or the basketball court. Students must present their dismissal card to the teachers on duty before leaving for the day.
Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Ups - February 16th, 17th, and 18th.
