Principal's Report

Kia Ora e te Whānau,

Today marks the half way point of term one. It's hard to believe how fast the term is flying.

This week was a jam packed one for the students and staff at BPS.

It is 'Walk n' Wheel' to School week this week. Thank you to Tania and the School Council for organising a greet 'wheelie' day on Wednesday. I was very impressed with their traffic management at lunch time!

Yesterday, the school council organised a mufti day to raise money for the Cyclone Relief Appeal. There was a lot of very creative outfits across the school, and an impressive amount of money raised. Thank you all for your support!

Next Friday evening, our Whānau and School have organised a Spud Dig. Please bring along your potatoes that were given out at the end of last year. Even if you don't have a potato, you are welcome to come along. This is a great opportunity to catch up with other school families, have a look around the school, and have a sausage sizzle. I am looking forward to seeing you all there. Who will win the prize for the best potato?

Have a greet weekend,

Kā mihi nui,

Vicki

Year 8's Outdoor Experience

Our Year 8 students had a wonderful day at the Kiwi Water Park last Friday. This was their outdoor experience for 2023, a tradition in our school for over 25 years. This is usually held at the end of the year but with such a busy end to our school years, we decided to head out to the great outdoors in Term One.

Sandpit

All going well, our sandpit will be receiving some lovely new sand this weekend. We would love to build up our collection of sandpit toys. If you have any used sand pit toys, or small shovels that you no longer need, we would really appreciate them.

Wanted

With the cooler and wetter weather approaching, we would love to build up our supply of board games for the children to play inside during wet break times. If you have any board games/play equipment in good condition that you no longer need, we can find a home for them.

Thank you.

Walk and Wheel Day

Our student council organised a track for our students to bike around on Wednesday for our Walk and Wheel to School Day. Thank you to Tania for helping organise this and a special thank you to Paige and Tayla Rose for the wonderful effort they put in with helping the students.

Second Hand Uniforms

Our Whānau and School run a second hand uniform shop at school. All items are only $5. If you require a top up, please call in at the school office.

If you have any good quality uniform that no longer fits your children, you are very welcome to donate it to the second hand uniform shop.

Room 1

During our physical education session we learnt how to communicate in a team environment. We used whatever we could to get our ‘hot potatoes’ to Mrs Haar’s plate!

Room 3

In Room 3 this week we have been learning about shapes. We have learnt lots of names of shapes as well as how many sides they have. We then used the shapes to create different things like houses, snowmen, flowers, rockets and much more.

Whānau and School

Thank you to everyone who has returned their forms and transferred money for the foodwrap order, awesome effort!

All payments need to be paid by now or asap.

Spud Dig

Please see attached information about the Spud Dig which is next Friday 10th March 5pm-7pm. Any questions please let me know. We are needing some helpers on the night so if you can help please email at balcluthapta@gmail.com or text/phone Sara on 02102372282.

Have a great weekend and see you all next Friday.

Thanks and take care.

Amalaini, Kahu and Emily participate in relay activities with Skip. Skills include teamwork, balance and technique.

Room 6

This week we have been learning about the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset!

Thank You!

Thank you very much to our school community for the money donated on Thursday for students and schools affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. $347.30 was raised and this money has been put into an account organised by our local Otago Principals. It will be sent on to the schools in the North Island.

Room 7

What a fun week in Room 7! We have had Skip, our Sports Activator, at school. We had lots of fun trying his tricky challenges. We were all looking 'chaotic' on Thursday with our mufti day for Cyclone Gabrielle!

Room 12

The Room 12 students have been taking part in the NZ Census for Schools. They have gathered data including their height, the length of their feet and how long they can stand on one foot. We will soon be able to compare our results to other schools across Aotearoa.

Room 11

The past week has been busy for Room 11 students. We took part in the 'Census in Schools', collecting data on a variety of activities, such as: balancing on one leg; jumping as far as possible; measuring the circumference of thumbs and wrists.

We have also been learning the ukulele and spent another fitness session with Skip.

Happy Birthday this week to...
