LIBRARY NEWS
Thank you to our entire school community for supporting the recent Scholastic Book Fair. The library was a busy place, and over 700 books made their way into classrooms and households due to the fair. That translates to approximately 142,000 reading minutes. Wow! Additionally, fair sales will allow the school library to add 175 new books to library shelves for all readers.
Many thanks to our PTO for helping make this event possible, and to the following parents who volunteered their time to plan, organize, and help our students during the fair!

MUSIC NEWS
In K-4 music class, students are celebrating Folk Dance February! They are learning about how folk music is made up by everyday people, has variations in different regions, sometimes tells a story, is repetitive, and often uses acoustic and portable instruments.
Some of the dances students are learning right now are The Chimes of Dunkirk (France), The Bunny Hop (USA), La Raspa (Mexico), Highway No. 1 (Australia), 7 Jumps (Denmark), Old Brass Wagon (USA), Alabama Gal (USA), Heel and Toe Polka (unknown), and Circle Waltz Mixer (Scotland). These dances are a variety of line, circle, and scatter formations. Doing these dances requires concentration, keeping the beat with movement, and collaborating with one or more partners. We are having so much fun learning these dances! If your child is in K-4, ask them to demonstrate their favorite dance at home! All recordings can be found on YouTube.
Here are some upcoming music department performances to put on your calendar:
March 25 - Small Ensembles Concert
April 4-6 - Beauty and the Beast Jr.
April 17 - Concert Choir and Ukulele Band field trip to Charlotte Senior Center
May 3-4 - ACDA Honor Choir Festival in Burlington
May 13 - CCS Stage Band at the CVSD Jazz Festival at CVU
May 20 - CCS 5-8 Chorus Concert
May 23 - CCS 5-8 Band Concert
June 5 - 6th Grade Chorus field trip to Charlotte Senior Center
June TBA - CCS Stage Band at the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington
4TH GRADERS LEARN HOW TO KNIT
Due to a generous grant from the PTO, 4th graders are learning how to knit ! The PTO grant funded the purchase of 22 sets of knitting needles and 5 skeins of local wool to get our students started.
This knitting project is a way to enrich a unit on Vermont history and the importance of Merino sheep in this area during the early 1800’s. Local wool is beautiful and will provide our students with a great opportunity to work with a Vermont product and in turn support our local economy. Parent and grandparent volunteers are in a 4th grade classroom helping those students interested in learning how to knit over the next few weeks.
The sets of knitting needles will be cataloged with Heidi Huestis in our school library for anyone interested in future projects. Many thanks to the PTO for supporting this project.
