CMS Robotics Competes in Regional Competition

The Corner Middle School Robotics Team competed in the Lion's Pride Spring VEX IQ Robotics Tournament at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville last Saturday. The CMS team was the only Jefferson County School in competition at the regional event. There were 35 schools in competition at the event.

The two 5th and 6th grade teams and the two 7th and 8th grade teams are making great progress as they move through their season either taking first and/or second place at all of our district competitions. Two teams -- the Warbots and the Falcons -- reached the finals finishing fourth and eighth in the finals of the competition out of 35 teams from the schools in attendance.

Coached by Mrs. Jennifer Harris and Mrs. Anita Wiley, the teams program and build their robots for the competitions, and continuous reprogram and upgrade designs as they work toward state and world competition in the spring.

Thank you to the families who came out to support the teams at the competition on Saturday! We are very proud of our coaches and our future engineers!!!

2022 PTO Membership Drive Kicks off in January

As Jefferson County Schools entered the 2021-2022 school year, educators and families alike held out hope that COVID-19 restrictions that were present in the previous school year would relax and allow teachers and students return to some sense of normalcy moving forward. We have had a great first semester that included a regular opening of school, the return of field trips, and a full slate of academic, arts, and athletic activities at Corner Middle School.

Prior to the holidays, administration met with parent representatives to discuss how we can better involve our students' families as we head into 2022. While we are still monitoring Omicron's impact on school policy, the parent leaders feel this is good time to work to get families back into our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).

Below, you will find the PTO Membership Form that families can complete to join the organization. Membership dues are $10.00 per family. The form and dues can be turned into the school office. The group is looking to fill leadership / officer and committee openings. The January membership drive will end on the last day of the month.

Please bring your ideas, talents, and skills to the table in partnering with our school staff to work to provide our students with the opportunities and tools they need to move successfully to Corner High School and beyond!
