Tragedy of the Scottish Play

Scottish Play Downfall

The downfall was caused by both Lady Macbeth and the witches. Macbeth was overwhelmed when the witches told him what was going to happen in his life, so ending up he told his wife what they had said. Although he was the violent one, she was the person who urged him to become who he was, leading towards downfall. For example, Macbeth was always kind to the King, but when the first prophecy was told, “ All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.52), he really wanted this power, so he told his wife. Telling her ended badly, with her wanting power, she told Macbeth to gain this power he had to kill the one he was one he was most loyal to: King Duncan. Throughout the book, Lady Macbeth guides Macbeth into doing things that were obviously wrong, but he continued anyway to gain power. The witches make Macbeth overthink the future, and that leads him and Lady to go crazy, “Out, damned spot! out, I say! --One: two: why, then, 'tis time to do't.--Hell is murky!--Fie, my lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard?” (5.1. 39-52). Macbeth's downfall is also caused by him. He caused himself to go down. At any point in time he could have stopped. Also, he could have refrained himself from starting this mess, “It were done quickly. If the assassination could trammel up the consequence…” (1.7.3-4). By the end the downfall of Macbeth would be placed in the hands of many people.

The Scream

The piece of art “The Scream” represents the Scottish Play because in the story who doesn’t want to just relieve stress and scream? The painting shows a man screaming. In the play Lady is a very stressed, crazy and paranoid person. She is a person who just wants to scream! She is also the only person to keep Macbeth sane. When Macbeth found out that Lady had died Macbeth responded, “If thou speak’st false, upon the next shalt thou hang alive, till famine cling thee. If thy speech be sooth i care not if thou dost for me as much. I pull in resolution, and begin to doubt the equivocation of the fiend…” (5.5.43-48). Basically macbeth was heartbroken and wanted to scream due to her death.

Supernatural

Supernatural relates to Macbeth due to power. In season nine of the show one of the main characters, Dean, gets a mark, the mark of cain, which has brought Dean so much power. If anything too much power. this is just like when Macbeth and Lady find out what the prophecies say. They have too much power which controls them as well. The clip shows the trailer for season 10, which is when the power is shown. "Thou sure and firm-set earth, Hear not my steps, which way they walk, for fear Thy very stones prate of my whereabout, And take the present horror from the time, Which now suits with it. Whiles I threat, he lives. Words to the heat of deeds too cold breath gives" (2.1. 56-70). This quote shows when Macbeth is thinking how to, or if he should, kill Duncan. He chooses to, causing him to have too much power. Just like Dean in supernatural.
