First Grade News
October
What we've been learning
We have ventured into the world of addition and subtraction! First we started with breaking down numbers (i.e. How many ways can I put 10 apples into 2 baskets?). Then we began to put numbers together (add). In Reading and Writing, we have been learning about story structure- beginning, middle, end and characters, problems, and solutions. This week we began writing our own stories! They turned out great!
Crossroads Heritage Center Field trip
We had fun learning about the past! We got to see how people in the past would have made ice cream (and eat some too!); how they would have got and made their food (yum sorghum cookies!); and how their school day would have gone.
Taste Testing
At the garden, we got to taste pumpkin and sunflower seeds, pickles, and sauerkraut!
Petting Farm
We got to hold baby chicks, pet a fluffy rabbit and milk a (pretend) cow!
