Te Karere a te Tumuaki - Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi (good afternoon/evening). It was fabulous to see friends and whānau at our open day on Tuesday. Onoke students loved showing our visitors through the school and I very much enjoyed talking with people at the end of their visits. We hope you all received a copy of the open day booklet that came home on Tuesday. It is a great summary of what Gladstone School is all about and we encourage you all to have a read through of it. If your copy didn't make it home, please see the link below this message.
We had lots of great feedback about the programmes and organisation in place at Gladstone School and continue to encourage those of you who haven't been in to see classrooms in action to pop by some time soon. It is always good to remember that the last 1/2 an hour of the day leads into pack-up, tidy-up mode so visible classroom learning will not be seen at these times.
We welcomed Maia Maunsell and Jimbo with a mihi whakatau on Monday afternoon. Maia is joining with Whaea Micaela to tutor kapa haka here at school. The first session was awesome and we are excited about sharing new learning with you all during the year.
Our Year 3 students have been on camp at Waimanaaki for a 2 night stay this week. The kids and parents were awesome and it was lovely seeing students enjoying time with each other and trying new things. Onoke headed over to the National Young Leaders Day in Palmerston North on Thursday and by all accounts heard some fantastic leadership messages. We look forward to students sharing this experience with you at home.
Thanks to those of you who have calendared our up coming Matariki breakfast on Friday the 2nd of July and also the planting/gardening working bee on Sunday the 4th of July. FoGS is catering lunch on the Sunday and we will have a coffee cart at the Matariki breakfast. Please join us for these events.

Y3 Camp @ Waimannaki
Our Year 3's have had a super trip to Riversdale. They stayed at the amazing Camp Waimanaaki, pushed through some cool weather and had fun together. A huge thank you to the parents who went along to help out, and to Mrs Church & Mrs Botha for organising this cool leadership opportunity. We talked together as a group before heading off, about the reasons we go on camp - to overcome challenges; build resilience; develop collaboration and experience new things. Chat to your children what they think their challenge was - for some it would have been packing their bag ready to come home. Arie Butler had this nailed - I was impressed to see how neatly he had all his clothes lined up ready to pack on the last day. Check our more photos on our school facebook page.
NYLD - National Young Leaders Day
Onoke travelled to Palmerston North on Thursday for the National Young Leaders Day. This year's theme was ' Stronger Together' - Ehara taku toa I te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini; My strength is not due to me alone, but due to the strength of many.

Assembly
Thanks to Jack Anderson and Benji Gardner who were in charge of our assembly. Congratulations to Lucy Blake who was our star of the week - amazing focus in class and consistently demonstrating all of our values (manaakitanga; ako; kaitiakitanga). We had morning tea with Troy McGregor; Benji Gardner; Olivia Orsborn; Saxen Alexander; Molly Freeman; Tim Berryman & Wyatt Halliday who earned manaakitanga certificates this week - well done.
Wairarapa College Open Evening & College Visits.
It was cool to see many of our intermediate students having a look around the Wairarapa College campus on Wednesday evening. Thinking about secondary schools has been on top this week as we have also had visits from Kuranui and Chanel Colleges. We thank all of the colleges for showcasing what they have to offer our students.
