Student Learning in Action!
Principal's Message
It's STAAR week and we will ride into this week confident that our 4th and 5th graders will do their best on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As we drive concepts heavily with our students during the fourth 9 weeks, let's be extremely intentional of every learning opportunity.
Ensure you are continually checking for understanding and have a proven system to ensure you know how your students are progressing. Using programs to provide blended learning opportunities takes extra steps to monitor progress. Be sure to have a protocol to review weekly progress students are a system to provide feedback to your students. It's part of actively monitoring and adjusting the program so that it is a benefit to students next level learning.
We are a multiple measures school district and the measures we gauge student achievement are the following:
- MAP Growth in tested areas
- STAAR
- TELPAS
- PANORAMA Survey
- Grade Level Priority Standard Assessments
As we schedule for your summative conferences, be prepared to speak to each of these points and present how your class is growing, what your end of year target aims are and will be.
As always, your classroom is one of the best evidences for achieving high expectations for every child. We continue to monitor the following:
Expectations- (TTESS 2.1: Achieving Expectations) seeing teachers embrace student independence vs. dependence as the teacher empowers students rather than controls students. Here's what it looks like at distinguished:
- Provides opportunities for students to establish high academic and social emotional expectations for themselves.
- Persists with the lesson until there is evidence that all students demonstrate mastery of the objective.
- Provides opportunities for students to self monitor and self-correct mistakes.
- Systematically enables students to set goals for themselves and monitor their progress over time.
Lastly, don't forget we don't have after school this week. Also, as we prepare to highlight multi-facets of our school with our graduate aims:
- Complex Problem Solver
- Cognitive Flexibility
- Social Intelligence
- Confident Communicator
we will have the Communications Department out filming on Thursday and Friday between 8:00-10:00. (No make-up testing zones.) We will be entering random classrooms for footage on students working. I may email some of you to be able to speak on one of these graduate aims to highlight our school.
With love, respect, and admiration,
Rachel Martinez
