Ag Day - May 5th: BEST FIELD TRIP EVER!

On May 5, we walked across to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds to visit Ag Day. Students took part in 6 separate activities during our visit including visiting with baby farm animals (including a Jake, the week old piglet, and Wheezy, a three week old calf.

We all took turns sitting on a tractor, enjoyed a snack, played a word game and number game, as well as making a pig craft. As one student said "Best fied trip ever!" after coming off the tractor.

Wednesday's Field Trip to the Indianapolis Children's Museum

Please make sure your child is in school in good time on Wednesday. Those who need to eat breakfast in school will need to pick up breakfast before coming to class and be finished eating by 8:10.

Chaperones need to be in school by 8:15 to help get the students ready. We will be leaving at 8:30 for Indianapolis and will leave the Children's Museum at 12:30 to return to Columbus. All chaperones will ride the bus with our class. A HUGE thank you to all who volunteered to come with us. The children are so excited to go together.

I plan to set up a specific REMIND group for the chaperones for our field trip to make sure we have a way of staying in contact during our visit to the Children's Museum, including alerts when it is time to head for lunch or to the gathering place before departure. The code to join the group will be available on Wednesday morning in school.

CLASSROOM NOTES

In Reading this week, we worked on:

  • the -ea chunk, as in dear continuing our ”hunks and chunks”, recognizing the sounds, forming the letters correctly, and thinking of words that include ea, including ear, dream, and eat.
  • using pronouns such as I, we, they, he, and she
  • using context clues to help us understand unfamiliar words

In Writing, we wrote our own stories just for fun. We have great imaginations and lots to tell you in our stories.

In Math, we have been working on reviewing and practicing a wide range of Kindergarten skills as we work on completing year end assessments.

READING BOOKS AND SIGHT WORDS

The children's sight word folders will be returned to them next week. These are yours to keep. All Kindergarten Reading Records and books should be returned to school next week. Thank you for all your comments on your child's reading and for returning these to school on a regular basis. It makes a huge difference to your child's development as a reader.
