Coyote Howler

April 26, 2021

Dear Kincaid Families,

During the last few weeks of school we have many opportunities for families. This week is our final week of H.O.W.L (Helping Ourselves With Literacy). A perfect way to support literacy is to stop into Barnes and Noble this week or order online and build up your home library of children's books. Please mention that you are there to support Kincaid Elementary and we will receive a portion of the sales to purchase new books to up-date our school library. All the details about the Kincaid Barnes and Noble Bookfair are found in this issue of the Howler. Ms. Heather has several fun events scheduled to support our Barnes and Noble Bookfair. I hope your family is able to particpate in one or more of these events.

Picture Day has finally been scheduled for May 12. All students will be photographed who are present on the day of pictures. Families will have the opportunity to order photos online. We appreciate Fitzgerald's Photography in accommodating us during Covid.

This year more than ever, we realized the importance of up-to-date and working technology. Many of our classrooms are in need of new document cameras. This tool is used for online and in class instruction. Each document camera costs about $125. Raising Cane's at the Dimond locations is supporting our school for a second day of fundraising on May 13th. The funds raised during this event will help us up-date our document cameras. We had a fantastic turnout during our first event and hope you all enjoy another day of chicken for lunch or dinner.

During the last few weeks of school we are asking students to bring in a pair of headphones. Headphones cannot be shared between students and we have a limited number available. We will need headphones starting the first week in May when students take the spring iReady diagnostic. Please put the headphones in a bag and make sure your child's name is on the bag.

6th Grade Fundraiser for End of Year Celebrations

Sixth grade is trying to do a fundraiser to help with the upcoming costs for Graduation gifts and decorations, and we need your help! We will be doing a 3-week Dimond Greenhouse fundraiser from April 12th until April 30th, selling $25 gift certificates.

These can be redeemed from Mother’s Day on May 9th until Father’s Day on June 20th. This would be a GREAT Mother’s Day gift, as we will have the certificates returned before then!

We are also offering a pizza party to the class that raises the most money, so please help us out and promote the fundraiser! Go Coyotes!

Thanks in advance,

6th grade team

Online Registration Is OPEN for Returning Students Starting April 26th

Enrollment at Kincaid has declined during the pandemic. It is in the spring that we begin to plan for fall. Online registration for the 2021-22 school year will open for returning students on April 26th. New to District students can register online starting July 1st. It is important that our Kincaid families register early to provide ASD leaders a clear picture of our enrollment. We currently have 460 students enrolled at Kincaid compared to 550 at this time last year.

Please make sure to register your child early, as enrollment drives our staffing allocation. If you need your Parent Connect information, please call the office for assistance at 245-5530.

Kincaid Elementary will be a collection site for this year's Clothesline Project. We will be collecting new and gently used clothing. Officer Butler, our School Resource Officer, will be working with our school counselor to coordinate this project at Kincaid. Items may be sent to school with students from May 3-13.

Please Return Chromebooks starting May 3

Elementary students attending in-person instruction and who have an ASD Chromebook checked out to them will be asked to return the device to their school starting May 3. Students in the virtual program will be asked to return their device by the end of the school year unless: 1) they are attending summer school, or 2) they will be enrolled in the virtual program next year.

In addition to any school-specific guidance regarding the return process, please be sure to include the following information in your communication with families:

· Who: Every elementary student who has been issued a District Chromebook and is attending classes in person. (Students in the virtual program will be handled separately.)

· What:

o Students will need to return their Chromebooks and ALL power cords.

o Any Chromebooks not returned by May 7 will be remotely disabled on May 17.

· When: Chromebooks will be collected between May 3 - 7.

Planning for Next Fall

We do not take specific teacher requests, but will consider what your child needs when placing your child in a classroom. There is a lot of information we use to balance our classrooms and we appreciate your input. When we begin building our classes, teachers will meet to discuss student strengths and student needs. We would appreciate your input to identify your child's strengths and needs. This information will be part of the discussion and decision making.

If you would like, you may fill out this optional form to provide input into your child's class placement for next fall. Please do not request a specific teacher. We will not be able to take specific requests into consideration.
