Jackson Jaguars ROAR
Week 7: October 5 -October 9, 2020
Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,
Does your child have a favorite mask?
It is very important that your child(ren) bring a mask to school each and every day. We have had a few students come to school without a mask this week. Please remember that by committing to allow your child(ren) to attend In-Person school, you also committed to have them bring all of their belongings each day, including and most importantly, their mask. Thank you for your help and support with this!
Jackson is a Certified AVID School!
Did you know that your child(ren) attends an AVID Elementary School? This is Jackson's 5th year as a Certified AVID Elementary School (one of only 3 in all of District 11). Your child(ren) has been developing skills to help them be successful throughout their educational career. As a college and career going culture, they are learning how to take notes, ask and answer higher-level questions, working collaboratively with others (although at a distance this year),
Parent/Teacher Conferences: October 29 & 30, 2020
Parent/Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. Due to the restrictions that are in place for visitors to enter the building, we will be scheduling all conferences via WebEx. Classroom teachers will be scheduling a 30 minute conference with you soon. We will be holding conferences for 2 weeks in order to accommodate your busy schedules. As a reminder, it is a Jackson Elementary expectation that ALL families participate in their annual conference. This is a great opportunity to be able to meet one on one with the classroom teacher, learn how your child(ren) is doing in school, see examples of their work, and learn how to support your child(ren)'s learning at home.
In addition to our annual Parent/Teacher Conferences, we will be continuing our tradition of parent activities, but instead of being in the gym, we will have them on Schoology so that you can complete the activities with your child(ren) over the course of two weeks. Once the 3 activities are completed, your child(ren) will get to pick out FREE, BRAND NEW BOOKS!
We look forward to meeting with you and as always, if you would like to include myself, our School Social Worker, Mrs. Ruiz, one of our Interventionists, our ESL Teacher, Mrs. Graff, etc. into your child(ren)'s conference, just let your teacher know and we will make sure that happens! Thank you for continuing to work with us as a true Home/School Partnership! It is definitely what is best for our students and children!
If you think your child is ill:
We would like to thank you for taking the necessary precautions to make sure that students who come to school are healthy! We know that this is a difficult time of year with the traditional sniffles that tend to go around, but we have to be more cautious than ever! Please follow the guidelines below to ensure that your child(ren) only comes to school if they are healthy. Please call the front office if you have ANY questions regarding if your child should come to school or not.
Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this school year. There are many unknowns and we know you are eager for answers. Please know we are getting them to you as soon as possible. Call the office at (719) 328-5800, your classroom teacher, or me (719) 328-5802, if you have any questions!
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Thank you,
Sara Miller

Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,
Please take care of yourselves and your family. Here is a message from Mental Health America (MHA): "This year, Mental Illness Awareness Week takes place from October 4-10, 2020. National Depression Screening Day is October 8 and World Mental Health Day is October 10.
7 Mental Health Conditions To Learn About
Many people do not seek treatment in the early stages of mental illnesses because they don't recognize the symptoms.
During Mental Illness Awareness Week, MHA will focus on sharing information about 7 major mental health conditions:
Each condition coincides with a free screening tool MHA offers at MHAscreening.org. Taking a mental health screening is one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Screening helps catch problems early - B4Stage4. "

Our Library Checkout Process is in the works! We are currently jumping through many "literature hoops" to help students be allowed to check-out books from the school library once again! We look forward to having students return to the library.
Until then, students were given 1-2 books earlier this school year they can read. In addition, Parent/Teacher Conferences and family activities to go along with it, students will receive even more books to add to their home library! Providing free books to children is truly one of the very best things I get to do each year!
This year, we will be having an ONLINE BOOK FAIR! You and your child(ren) may purchase books and have them delivered to you! I will be sending out more information about our ONLINE BOOK FAIR soon!
We know that many of you are still having technology issues. We appreciate when you contact us to help you the best we can. Please contact me directly for technology support at rhonda.sobecki@d11.org or call me at 719-328-5824.

Q Parent Connection (app)
Please take a few minutes to verify or update the information we have on file for each of your student(s) through the Q Parent Portal. You can do the update either:
- On a mobile device: download the new ParentConnection app for either IOS or Android. Search for “Q Parent Connection”
- On a computer at: https://d11connect.d11.org/ParentPortal
Information to verify/update:
- phone numbers
- email addresses
- military status
- health concerns
- emergency contact information
If you do not know your PIN and password, click the “Need Your Login Information” link on the sign in page, enter your email address, and you will receive an email containing your PIN and password. Once logged in
- Click on Information Update
- Review each section
- Submit
Once you have completed the update process, you should receive a verification email for each student. If your school has a registration event, you can show them this email as proof you have updated your information, saving you the time of filling out paper update forms.
If you need assistance, there is a help video on the left side of the ParentConnection home page. If you need additional assistance, please call Sue Lesar, Jackson's Staff Assistant at 719-328-5811.
Box Tops for Education
My name is Deb Tuxhorn and I am the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for Jackson Elementary. Box Tops for Education is a school fund-earning program that helps schools earn cash to buy things they need.
There are 2 ways to do this:
1) As you shop in your grocery stores, look for the logo on the boxes. They do not need to be clipped. Simply scan your receipt once you download the APP to your phone. Register Jackson Elementary to receive the points. We will earn 10 cents per item. You can also see the list of products and specials they are running.
2) Send in any clipped out Box Tops you may have saved over the summer with your student to their classroom. I will collect these from each classroom.
Thanks for supporting Jackson Elementary. Every Box Top helps!
