An update for families from Centennial Public School
Especially at this time of year we are so thankful for the students and families at Centennial Public School! What a great community!
Dear Families,
Staff and students have done a great job practising emergency drills and this week is Fire Prevention Week as set out by Kingston Fire & Rescue. We expect the trucks to come and do an unannounced drill sometime on Wednesday!
Kingston Fire & Rescue encourages all families to check to ensure that they have working smoke alarms in the home, and that an escape route is planned in case of an emergency. You are invited to complete the Kingston Fire & Rescue home self-inspection checklist for a chance to win one of four $100 monthly prizes! Details can be found using the following link: https://www.cityofkingston.ca/residents/emergency-services/kingston-fire-rescue/truck-station-visits/home-self-inspections
This week junior students had the opportunity to attend the Queen's Women's Soccer Game at Richardson Stadium. They also got to play a game against Rideau Public School at half time. The cheers from the thousands of spectators in the stands was incredible! As one Centennial Comet said, "I will remember this day for the rest of my life!" We are so proud of the effort that Centennial students are putting into their learning and activities and for trying new things!
We were thrilled to give away $200 in gift cards to families who signed up for School Day. There are more draws this week so please sign up! Information is below. Anyone who hasn't signed up will receive a new log in sheet this week. Please check your child's backpack for this student-specific log in information.
Good luck to all Centennial Cross Country runners who will represent the school on Friday at Fort Henry hill. Go Comets! Students have been training all fall and have been doing a great job. Hats off to the many coaches who support these student athletes!
There are lots of great things happening at Centennial and we try to share some photos and updates in each edition of the Centennial Connection. All editions are available on the school website at: https://centennial.limestone.on.ca/
This week we welcomed Ms Leah Mighton to Centennial PS as Ms East has gone on maternity leave. We wish Ms East all the best as she anticipates the arrival of her little one and we welcome Ms Mighton to the Centennial team! This coming week we also say good bye to Mr Davis, an Educational Assistant in the Grade 3/4 class as he has secured a position closer to home. We will miss you! We welcome Ms Fitzgerald who will be filling in that role until Ms Zuber returns from medical leave. We also welcome Ms Cotter as a part time Educational Assistant in primary. Welcome to all!
The LDSB is offering some on-line tutoring supports for students. For the latest updates, please refer to the Tutoring & Learning Resources page on the LDSB website: https://www.limestone.on.ca/cms/one.aspx?portalId=352782&pageId=274818
LDAK (Learning Disabilities Association of Kingston) & Queen's University are presenting a Literacy Workshop for parents/guardians of children in grades K-3 on October 20th at the Central Branch of the Kingston Library. Details below.
We wish all of our families who celebrate Thanksgiving a wonderful day with loved ones. This is a great weekend to check out the parks and trails in our area, and to take time to unplug and spend time with others. We are so thankful for the Centennial community and for the incredible children who attend our school!
We hope you are having a great long weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school tomorrow!
