I thrive to keep our shelves full and with the titles the kids will want to read. As well as making the library feel inviting. We have colorful paintings, etc. on every wall. We have the traditional wooden tables and chairs but we also have a couch and chair with ottomans, lounging chairs, wobble chairs, and being shipped at this time is 12 mushroom chairs.

Coming in is as a first year librarian has been a blessing. I love this new role. I have been really proud of my 3rd and 4th graders meeting their goals reading our Bluebonnet books. We will be celebrating those who have met the goals with a pizza party!

My philosophy for Dodd’s elementary library is to give the kids a place where they feel comfortable and happy. Then I try to find books that spark their interest, so that when they learn it feels easy and fun and something they WANT to do. One of the things I love to do in our library is make funny displays/bulletin boards. This library is one of the older libraries in the district and it’s been fun renewing the collection.

Libraries are a place where journeys begin.
I had the pleasure of volunteering with Books are the Beginning to help install and maintain libraries in Uganda. In the fall I introduced our students to these libraries. We compared their library to our own, learned of books in our own library highlighting their culture; then we learned about Galimotos a sort of toy that children in Africa often create. Our conclusion was a day of MakerSpace to create our own Galimotos, and my goodness did we have a good time creating!!

Congratulations to Ms. Bach for being recognized at Groves Elementary Paraprofessional of the Year!
”A book is a magical thing that lets you travel to far-away places without ever leaving your chair.” Katrina Mayer
Ms. Bach is so grateful to the parents and students who helped pull of a very successful Book Fair this year. Student success depends on literacy, and children need every opportunity to have more books at home and at school!
In January, 58 students celebrated the Bluebonnet Breakfast. These students read 5 Bluebonnet Nominee books and voted for their favorite. They were so excited to see that their favorite also won the Bluebonnet award!
