From the Desk of Dr. Ricks
What a wonderful week we have had! The children are enjoying our new Lower School playground facility, and we are now turning our attention to ways in which we can better improve recreational spaces for both Early Childhood and Middle School.
We have had several field trips to Curry Farms and pumpkin patches, and there are several more planned for the ballet, and holiday programs...even Middle School students will have the opportunity to visit the theater to see a movie that ties into their study of Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
Fall conferences went very well. Thank you for working with our teachers to make the best possible learning environment for your children. And, we are happy to arrange conferences at any time. Please don’t keep concerns or frustrations to yourself; share them and know that we welcome input so we can work together for our students. Parents sometimes worry that when they express concerns or frustrations, the teacher will perhaps show resentment to the child, but I can truly assure you that is not the case! We want to hear from you. It is always best to start with the teacher, and then see me. These are the people who can help address the problem. While talking to other parents can help one get perspective or clarify certain information, other parents probably can’t help address what is going on in the way that the teacher can. Please don’t assume that a teacher knows about your concerns—very often children speak and react differently at school and home, and we may not have any idea of something that is really bothering you or your child if you don’t share it with us.
The holidays are just around the corner, and the halls are starting to reflect the upcoming Turkey Day! Please visit our Gator Shoppe athttps://graceepiscopalschool.ecwid.com/ for one of a kind Christmas gifts--some have been hand painted by GES students and are truly limited-one-of-a-kind presents. Please check it out!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Dr. Ricks

Thanksgiving Breaking Bread with Grace
Once again Grace Church will provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need through The United Way 2-1-1 service center. We will provide “Ready to Cook” Thanksgiving meals to at least 40 families in the community! Each family will receive a bag filled with corn, green beans, dressing, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, and a voucher to pick up their turkey at Wal-Mart. The cost to feed a family of six is only $50.00. If you would like to join the effort to provide these families a Thanksgiving meal to cook in the comfort of their own homes, please place your designated donation marked "Breaking Bread" in the offering plate or mail or drop your donation by the church office. Donations of cash or checks are welcomed (no food donations will be accepted). All donations must be turned in by Sunday, November 12th. For more information, or if you are interested in assisting, please contact Debora Colvin at 318 348 3075 or email deboramcolvin@yahoo.com.

Incredible Generosity for Puerto Rico!
On Wednesday 4th October Grace Episcopal School collected pocket change for Puerto Rico as a part of the GES Wednesday morning Eucharist: $526.06 was collected. On Sunday 8th October Grace Episcopal Church took a special collection for Puerto Rico at both services: $536.00 was collected. All told, $1062.06 was collected and sent to Episcopal Relief and Development for their good work in Puerto Rico following the destruction of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The needs of our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico are massive, and our two collections will be applied directly to those needs. The generous and touching response of our church and school, working together as the Body of Christ, is an outward and visible sign of inward and spiritual grace. To all involved, thank you!

Middle School Yarn Bombing
Motivation
Yarn bombing is about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places with color and giving it life. They are considered non-permanent, and, unlike other forms of graffiti, can be easily removed if necessary.
Thank you Ginny Montgomery for being creative and teaching the Middle Schoolers a popular form of art.
